Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Emily & Penelope, a mommy and me studio session

Emily and Penelope came to the studio for a mommy and me maternity session. I have a studio wardrobe for expectant and new mothers, and it's always fun to pick dresses! Penelope was super excited to assist with the dress selection and chose a tulle skirted "princess" dress for Emily to wear. I loved working with the two of them and watching their interaction for sweet moments of connection.

Emily waits to find out until birth if it's a boy or a girl, so it was fun to discuss the difference between her two pregnancies. I am terrible at guessing whether it will be a boy or a girl, so I don't even try. We had some good conversation about what it's like to welcome a second child into the family. I think every parent expecting a second is a bit nervous about how it will all work, and how they'll possibly be able to love the second as much as the first. I'm here to tell you that the cliche you hear so often, "Love multiplies, not divides", is absolutely true. You'll fall in love with your new baby in a whole new way, and you'll fall in love with your older child as you watch them assume the role of big sibling. You'll also fall even more in love with your partner than the first time around as they settle into being a parent of two with you.

Here is a selection of my favorites from Emily's maternity session... I saved my absolute favorite from the session for last.

I have found that when photographing toddlers, it's best to let them be and just interact naturally. This allows me to capture them as they really are and creates genuine moments that aren't forced or posed.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Hair and Makeup services are available as an add on!

Your maternity session should be an amazing and fun experience. My goal is for my clients to feel comfortable, confident, and gorgeous. That's why I have an array of beautiful gowns and pieces that fit a range of size 0-16 available for my clients. No need to shop for a dress you'll likely never wear again.

I'm always thinking of ways to make the studio experience absolutely one of a kind for my clients. If you haven't watched this 1.5 minute video about my philosophy and how I work, I encourage you to do so.

Did you know that I partner with an absolutely amazing hair and makeup artist here in Atlanta? Margaret has a key to my studio, and will meet you here in advance of your session. If you're a newborn client, she'll meet you when you arrive and get started while I begin the session with your baby. You'll hop up on the makeup chair, show her the dress(es) you plan to wear from the studio wardrobe, and she'll start her magic while you enjoy some refreshments from the studio fridge and snack basket. Your partner can relax on the couch while you're being worked on.

This gorgeous mama worked with Margaret for her makeup, and the results are absolutely stunning. Kisha commented that she never would have been able to pull this look off herself, and was so happy to have everything taken care of for her. I can't wait to share the rest of the images from Kisha's session in the near future!

Margaret has worked with many of my newborn and maternity clients. She understands exactly how to create the look that is most beautiful in the studio - and most importantly - she enhances the beauty that is already there. The last thing I want is for you to look at your images and feel unrecognizable. If you're interested in adding on Margaret's services, be sure to ask when you reserve your session!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Aydin, 24 days new

When Kelly inquired about a newborn session, she informed me that her baby boy was already 3 weeks old so she knew she had missed out on newborn images. I was thrilled to tell her that she absolutely hadn't and could fit her in right away due to an opening in my schedule that weekend.

Because of the natural style in which I shoot, babies aren't contorted into uncomfortable positions or placed in bowls or baskets. I frequently photograph babies up to 5-6 weeks old. Sometimes my clients waited until the last minute, and sometimes clients thought they didn't want newborn images but then changed their mind when they saw how much their baby was changing in those early weeks and wanted to preserve all those details for their memories. That being said, it is definitely best to schedule in advance if you're able in order to guarantee my availability. Many of my clients book as early as the first trimester: I currently have sessions in my calendar every month through October 2016 already!

Kelly's  husband was already back to work, so we scheduled them for that weekend so he wouldn't have to take a day off. When they arrived, Aydin was sound asleep thanks to his parents following the newborn preparation guide that I send ahead of every session. I took Aydin into my newborn shooting room which is kept at a toasty 80-85 degrees, and his parents watched the entire session from my observation window. The observation window is fantastic because it allows you to have your baby in sight at all times without being uncomfortably hot and sweating for the solo baby shots. It also allows you to talk to your partner without risking your baby waking up because of hearing you. If you need to tell me something during a session, I can read your lips through the glass, or you can pop in for a minute or two as needed. It's the best of both worlds!

When I took Aydin out of his carseat and saw his hair, I squealed! How cute is it!? Kelly told me that he had so much hair that they could see it in the ultrasounds, so they knew he would be coming with a full head of it. I'm excited to share a few images from Aydin's newborn session with you.

Aydin also had the cutest little pout. Look at those sweet little lips!

When Kelly saw this textured two toned wrap, she loved it and requested that it be used for some of Aydin's newborn portraits. I happily obliged as it was the perfect color for his beautiful skin tone.

While I will do minimal posing of newborns to move hands away from the face, etc. I also like to step back and let your baby assume positions naturally on their own. Aren't his little folded hands just the sweetest?

atlanta-georgia-newborn-baby-photographer-natural-light-studio-organic-portraits-session-boy-cute-sweet

I adore black and white images, and just love this one of Aydin. He looks so sweet and cozy, and his little arm rolls are just the cutest. Not to mention, this image really shows off his full head of hair!

atlanta-natural-light-studio-intown-grant-park-newborn-baby-photographer-organic-pics

My newborn sessions are structured so that half of the final images are of baby alone and the other half are with parents. I have a very relaxed approach that combines the best of both worlds: natural light studio blended with lifestyle photography. Kelly and Aydin snuggled up on the bed and I asked Kelly to admire her beautiful baby boy and snuggle with him like she would at home. Mamas, we have all done this, and if you're expecting - when your baby is here, you will too. Natural and organic moments that show the genuine emotion and authentic moments are what I am all about!

Kelly wore her own cream lace dress to the studio which was absolutely gorgeous, but a dress hanging in the studio wardrobe caught her eye and she fell in love with it. I think she looks absolutely stunning in it!

Aren't they just the sweetest little family? Kelly requested that we incorporate a few images with Aydin's face up to hers. I love these images and am glad to take a few more "traditional" images  mixed in with the way I typically shoot.

Atlanta Newborn Photography | Ava, 12 days new

Brittany contacted me in January to reserve her newborn session, and I was happy to be able to have space for her due to some early arrivals. When clients reserve in advance, they receive priority booking - and that includes being able to have their session on a weekend day. I do not assess an additional fee for a weekend date. I understand that not everyone works in a job where they have the luxury of a lot of time off for a weekday. I always do my best to accommodate later or last minute inquiries, so even if your baby is already two weeks old - you haven't necessarily missed out on your opportunity for a newborn session! I frequently photograph babies up to 5-6 weeks of age whose parents didn't think they wanted newborn images and then changed their mind later and are trying to find someone. It breaks my heart to think of someone not being able to have images with their newborn. For guaranteed availability though, it's best to reserve your session as early as possible. I currently have newborns booked every month through October 2016!

When Brittany arrived at the studio, we chose her dress from the studio wardrobe, and she settled into a comfy chair while our hair and makeup artist worked her magic. Brittany also selected one of the button down chambray linen shirts for her husband that I keep on hand for dads. Most clients will bring things from their own closet too just in case they don't find anything that works in the studio wardrobe - but almost everyone ends up wearing one of the beautiful pieces available!

Hair and makeup services are available as an add service on to maternity and newborn sessions, so if you're interested in that be sure to ask about it when reserving your session! Brittany loved the experience since all she had to do the morning of her session was follow the instructions in the newborn preparation guide. Brittany loved the little rosette halo that she had seen on my Instagram and requested that I use it in some of Ava's images.

I'm excited to share some of my favorite images and little details from their session.

While Brittany was in the hair and makeup chair, I started the session with a soundly sleeping Ava. I love to capture the sweet little details of baby toes, lips, and noses.

After I wrapped up with Ava, I shot the images of Ava with her daddy. He is totally smitten with his little girl. I love seeing how tiny every baby's head is in the hands of their father. The head of your newborn grows SO fast - even two weeks later you'll be astounded at how much bigger they have gotten!

daddy-little-girl-daughter-baby-newborn-pics-atlanta-natural-light-studio-photographer-sweet-not-cheesy

I think it's safe to say that Ava loved being snuggled on her daddy's shoulder. There is nothing quite like seeing your partner with your baby. You'll fall in love with them all over again, and even more than you ever thought possible. Just wait, you'll see. It's nothing short of amazing.

atlanta-natural-light-newborn-baby-photos-girl-daddy-smiling-pics-sweet-love-intown-buckhead-grantpark

When we finished with those images, Brittany was totally ready and refreshed. She commented that she loved having some time to be pampered and enjoy herself since this was the first time she'd gotten out since Ava's birth. We started with family images, which I absolutely love. My favorite images are those of new parents looking at each other while snuggling their baby. My clients sometimes worry about what they should be doing for their images. My answer? "Look at each other, think about this awesome tiny human being that belongs to you that you made together, and just love each other." And you know what? They do. And the results are authentic, genuine, and beautiful

After family images, it was time for more of just Ava and her mommy. I have two little girls of my own, and I shoot images of my clients that I know they will hold dear for the rest of their lives. I know, because I am a mother. I cherish the little images of my firstborn's tiny hand clutching my finger and the joy on my face as I admired her. I want you to have these images with your baby too. They're so important. Literally all you have to do is love your baby. I'll take care of the rest.

When Brittany came back to the studio two weeks later for her design appointment, she talked about how much she loved the whole experience, which is exactly what I love to hear. I have designed everything carefully so that all of my clients have a wonderful time and truly enjoy the experience from first contact to final product delivery! Atlanta Newborn & Maternity Photographer | My philosophy and how I work

If you're like me, you want to know about the person you're inviting into your life to document what will become some of your family's most treasured images. I worked with an amazing videographer to create a short video of Lily Sophia Photography studio experience, and I share my philosophy and approach.

If you're pregnant in the Atlanta area and interested in booking me for your maternity and/or newborn session, I'd love to chat more about how I can make it one of the best experiences you've ever had. I love each and every one of my clients, and I highly value and care about them. The entire experience is designed around making it as seamless and stress free as possible for my clients. As a mom of three, I know where you are. I get it.  Most of my clients return time and time again as their families grow, and I love the long term relationships that I have developed over the years.

If you're ready to reserve your newborn or maternity session, just contact me to start planning your session! It's never too early to book to guarantee my availability. I typically book months in advance and am currently booking all the way into October 2016. I can't wait to work with you!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Manasa and Shiva

Manasa contacted me in November to reserve her maternity session in the field for mid February. We met on a chilly and windy day at the field, and they were both total troupers! I work very quickly and shoot with two camera bodies with my two preferred lenses rather than switching lenses constantly to be efficient for my clients. Nobody wants to stand out in the cold or heat any longer than necessary. My sessions do not incorporate cheesy poses or props because I want you to look natural and have fun together! I'll give my clients some guided direction if they're a little nervous, but in only takes a few minutes before we're all laughing and having a good time. Being photographed should be an experience that you enjoy, not a painful or awkward one! My entire client experience is designed around this philosophy. I love hearing my clients say, "That was so much fun!" after the session is over, and that's exactly what I strive for.

We took a couple of quick breaks for Manasa to warm up a little bit, and had a lot of fun. Here are some of my very favorite images from their session!

Atlanta Newborn Photography Studio | Why I don't travel for newborn sessions

January 2019 Update to this post: Big news! We are now offering in home newborn sessions again. A few important things to note: in home sessions look different than studio sessions because I don’t travel with my extensive newborn setup that is in the studio. This means your baby will be photographed in your arms and be wrapped in a blanket that you have on hand, and that your family will dress in your own clothing. Because I am not wrapping and posing your baby, you will not need to worry about sessions lasting longer than 2 hours unless we have an unusually fussy baby. In Home sessions are scheduled on weekdays only (the time depends on the best natural lighting in your home!), and travel fees may apply for locations more than 20 minutes from the studio. Lastly (and this one is important!!!): I don’t travel to homes that have had or currently have cats on site due to severe allergies that would lead to my departing for the emergency room. Contact us to discuss the differences between in home and studio sessions and decide what’s best for your needs and vision!

I am often asked to travel for newborn sessions by clients here in Atlanta who think an in home session would be "better" or "easier". I used to be an on location newborn photographer, but found that it was so stressful for my clients, and that sessions were lasting much longer than they needed to. I wanted to make the client experience amazing and consistent, so I opened my studio in 2013, and have never looked back!

So, I wanted to take the time to write a post addressing the specific reasons why in home sessions are not better, and why you'll love the studio experience!

Yours truly behind the scenes. Photo credit: Liz Cook.

Yours truly behind the scenes. Photo credit: Liz Cook.

The typical client that hires me comes to my website, views my portfolio, and decides that they love my style and the work that they see. That's perfect, because that's exactly why I want to be hired by you!

So, why come to the studio? Why is it better than my coming to your house? Let me share the most important reasons.

LIGHTING: In order to guarantee you the quality and consistency of the work you hired me for, coming to the studio is essential. My studio has the perfect natural lighting and is painted in the exact neutral tones needed to produce the light infused and emotive images that I am known for. Trying to find a place in your home where the light is sufficient can be very difficult. That difficulty is actually the very reason that I opened a studio!

COLOR: Many homes are decorated with beautiful colors, from paint on the walls to brightly colored couches, but these same colors will cause color casting on your images and aren't neutral. Neutral tones are what make my portfolio look the way it does, and I cannot produce that work in a house with ruby red walls or purple couches.

TEMPERATURE: Getting your home warm enough in the area where you might have sufficient light is difficult. Sometimes the only place that will work is the foyer by your front door, which is almost impossible to get warm enough even with a space heater due to the high ceiling. The studio is heated to 80-85 degrees to keep your newborn comfortable and asleep. Trying to heat one single room in your house is pretty difficult, and will likely be miserable for all involved. If a newborn is too cold, they are usually awake and crying from being uncomfortable. In my studio, you don't have to worry about this since it's not a factor.

CLUTTER: We all know it's survival mode for the first few weeks with a newborn. Trying to clean your house and make sure it's not cluttered for images that don't have distracting elements shouldn't be added to your to do list. Coming to the studio eliminates that entirely.

TIME: Who wants their newborn session to last for 5+ hours? I'm pretty sure no one does. But if your house is cluttered, isn't warm enough, or doesn't have the right lighting, a lot of time will be spent trying to fix these things which equals a longer day for you and your newborn. In the studio, you simply follow the easy instructions in your newborn prep packet that is sent to you in the week beforehand, and show up. The average newborn session takes two hours or less depending on how often your baby wants to eat.

COMMON CONCERNS: While it's understandable that new parents are a little bit nervous about getting out of the house for a newborn session, there's no need to be! In fact, my clients all remark on how nice it was to get out of the house as their studio session is often their very first outing with their baby to a safe and private place. A place where it doesn't matter if your baby spits up all over you and themselves, cries, needs a diaper change, or needs to nurse for twenty minutes.

I'm a mother to three children of my own, and I remember the newborn days so well. I designed the studio and the client experience specifically to make it as easy on new moms as possible.

I'm not kidding when I state that literally everything is taken care of for you at my studio. If you manage to forget your diaper bag on the way out of your house, that's not a problem. I've got you covered.  The studio is equipped with everything a new mom might need: from extra disposable nursing pads to newborn sized onesies if you forgot a change of clothing and your newborn's diaper decides to not hold up.

My favorite part of being a maternity and newborn photographer is being able to encourage my clients who are new mothers. The transition is always challenging, whether you're having your first or third baby - and I'm here to cheer you on and tell you that you're doing a phenomenal job as a mother. Sometimes we need to hear that, because it's easy to forget in the fog of the newborn stage.

Dads enjoy kicking back on the couch and taking some time for themselves during sessions. I've lost count of the number of dads who treat themselves to a little nap! Siblings have fun getting out of the house and going somewhere new. The studio is located right down the street from Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta, so many a grandparent has accompanied my clients and then whisked big brother and/or sister off to have some fun while we finish up.

For moms worried about being able to have the time to do their hair and makeup beforehand, we have an awesome hair and makeup artist that works with us! Her services are available as an add on to your session, and she meets you at the studio at your session start time. You can relax with a snack and drink from the studio fridge while she works her magic, and I'll get started photographing your baby alone, with your partner, and their sibling(s). If you're wearing something from the studio wardrobe, this means that ALL you have to do is roll out of bed, brush your teeth and your hair, and head to the studio. We'll take care of the rest. Your newborn session should be enjoyable and a fun experience.

Are you ready to book your newborn session at the studio? We're booking through October 2016 as of this blog post, and some months are already full. Please reserve your session early to guarantee my availability.  Just click here to request your session. I can't wait to work with you and your growing family!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Shannon

Things are quite busy here in the studio with bookings all the way through September 2016! As a result, I don't always have the time to blog my sessions.  However, I do love posting recent session photos to my Instagram account. If you're on Instagram, let's connect!

Shannon came to the studio in Grant Park for her maternity session on a cold January day. She brought nothing except herself, and made herself comfortable with a drink from the studio fridge as she sat in the hair and makeup chair. I've partnered with a fabulous HMUA who will meet you here at the studio if you want to add on her services to your maternity or newborn session. Margaret understands exactly how to apply your makeup and do your hair to make your images absolutely stunning - but the best part is that you still look like yourself!

After Shannon's hair and makeup were ready to go, we did a few test shots to make sure nothing needed to be adjusted. Then came the fun part of selecting the different dresses. I always enjoy making suggestions of dresses to wear from my studio wardrobe for my clients, because I know what will look beautiful on different body types. Client personality comes into play too, as some clients love a boho look, others love ethereal, and others love a little glamour. I've got something for everyone!

Dresses: from studio wardrobe, HMUA: Margaret Snider

Isn't Shannon gorgeous?!

I'd love to work with you to create gorgeous images of your pregnancy. We will have lots of fun: guaranteed. I really enjoy getting to know my clients, and even if you're not comfortable in front of the camera or in your new pregnant body, you'll feel like we're old friends by the end of our time together. Reserving your maternity session early is recommended in order to guarantee my availability, but I will do my very best to fit you in if you waited until the last minute. I can't wait to meet you!

Atlanta Family Photographer | Golden Evening

I was contacted by this mom when she saw a friend's maternity session on social media. She was so excited to have found me because she described my style as exactly what she had been looking for. In her words, "I want the beautiful light and the real connections between us, not some cheesy staged photos that don't show who we really are." My response? "You've found the right person." Emotional connection showing your family together and the love you have for each other are exactly why I love to photograph families. I want to photograph families as they are. No fake cheesy smiles. No cheesy props. Instead, laughter and joy. Big squishy hugs. Quiet moments together just being who you are.

A couple of weeks before their session, I went to their home to help her "shop" from her own closet and we pulled together great outfits for the whole family. Ultimately, clients decide what they want to wear: but images always look so much more beautiful if they choose to have me help style them for their session. I shoot in my specific locations weekly, so at this point I know what will produce the best images for my clients. Working with clients who share the same vision for their images and trust my input and expertise is an absolute dream.

Here are just a couple of images from their session, which we shot on Thanksgiving weekend... we could not have asked for a more beautiful day!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | All the way from Nashville

When Amber contacted me a few weeks ago about reserving a maternity session in the studio, I noticed that her area code was for Nashville, TN. I found out that she actually lived in Nashville and was driving four hours to Atlanta for her session! This is not the first time I've had a client drive from several hours away to work with me (I've had clients from Michigan and South Carolina come for sessions with me), but I'm always honored when I hear clients want to spend extra travel time to have me be their photographer. Amber came to the studio the weekend before her shoot for her maternity fitting and to look through the dresses. She had seen several dresses already that previous clients had worn, and knew exactly what she wanted to try on. I think she tried on over 10, and selected a total of three. The following weekend she returned to the studio with her husband, and we had a lot of fun shooting her session! She looked absolutely gorgeous in the dresses that she chose, and I'm so excited to share more from her session over the coming weeks.

I don't want anyone to miss the opportunity to have maternity images because this is such a special time in your life that will never happen again with this baby. Atlanta Newborn Photography | Sweet new family of three

How sweet is this family? I had such a wonderful time working with them for their maternity, Fresh 48, and newborn sessions and look forward to seeing them in the studio again for milestone sessions! Many of my clients choose to book multiple sessions with me, and I love getting to know them along the way. Mom's top and dad's shirt are available as part of my studio wardrobe. I'm more than happy give suggestions for what to wear for your studio session if you prefer to bring your own clothing. Your experience is so important, so I walk you through everything to ensure that your images are classic, timeless, and beautiful. I want you to smile when you look at them and I want your children to see how happy you were to have them in your arms and how much you loved them. That's my goal for any client who works with me here at Lily Sophia Photography!

Many clients ask if high resolution files are included with their newborn collection. The answer is yes, along with a personal print release and a list of recommended consumer labs for printing. Every newborn collection also includes some tangible professionally printed artwork for your home, AND I love gifting all of my newborn clients a set of 25 fine paper announcements to send to friends and family. After your session, you'll come back to the studio to sift through your printed proofs while enjoying a snack and beverage from the studio fridge. We'll choose the images for your artwork and your birth announcement together, and you'll leave that day with your proof set and digital files ready to go. It's lots of fun, laid back, and I work with you every single step of the way to ensure a wonderful experience. Click here to read what previous clients have to say about working with me.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | The transition to motherhood

I really love when maternity clients choose to book Fresh 48 and a newborn session like this mama did. Seeing the change that takes place from when they are expecting, to that first day of wonder and amazement in the hospital with their new baby after their world has been turned upside down, to the pure and completely indescribable love for their new baby in the studio ... it's really incredible to see the change in a woman just by her countenance. The transition to motherhood is clearly visible in the images that I take since my goal is to capture the emotional connection between you, your partner, your unborn baby or brand new baby.  It's such an honor to be invited to document these precious and fleeting times in the lives of new families.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | A Sweet Moment in the Gardens

When Shay contacted me to reserve her maternity session, she set up time to come to the studio for a complimentary wardrobe fitting and to meet me beforehand. She wasn't sure which location she wanted to shoot in and was between the field and the gardens. After discussing what she would be wearing and what her vision was for her maternity photos, we determined that the gardens would be the best location for her. We really wanted to showcase her gorgeous fitted gown and beautiful growing belly! The dress and sash are a part of my studio wardrobe available to all booked clients!

I loved working with Shay and her husband, and we had a lovely time in the gardens documenting sweet moments between the two of them. This is one of my favorite images, and the one that they chose for wall art. Doesn't she look stunning?

Atlanta Family Photographer | Love and Hugs

This sweet family of three traveled all the way to Atlanta from Columbia, SC for their session with me in the field that I love to shoot in. Mom texted over several outfit options that she was considering, and we narrowed it down to what they wore that evening. This session was shot in March 2015 - I have so many sessions to share but am often just too busy working with my clients to blog sessions right away.

I had so much fun with this family, and enjoyed watching them just love each other and be together. That's what family portraits are about for me. If we manage a shot of everyone looking and smiling, that's wonderful: but that's not at all the goal. The goal is to capture your family just as you are in that moment. It makes for a much more relaxing session too since you just have to be yourselves and have fun together. Who wouldn't enjoy that? I also love to pull mom and dad aside for some photos of just the two of them. So many of my clients haven't had any couples photos taken since their engagement and wedding photos. Things have changed a lot in your lives as parents, but your love for one another is still there - so I think it's so important to document that too during your family session. Someday the kids will be all grown up and out of the house, and it'll be just the two of you again.

Atlanta Birth Photographer | The Importance of Discretion

I had a client ask me a question today when they came to the studio for their consultation for The Birth Session. It was a simple question. They asked me, "What makes you different from other birth photographers besides your shooting and editing style?" Obviously, there's not just ONE answer to that question, but I wanted to touch on one of the answers that I gave them because I think it's so important that anyone considering birth photography take the following into consideration - whether they're here in Atlanta looking for a birth photographer or not!

When you hire me as your birth photographer you can take comfort in the fact you are hiring someone who understands the importance of discretion and respects your privacy - and places that at the forefront of your entire experience from beginning to end.

(1) I won't share identifiable images of you or your baby online unless I am specifically requested to. I never identify clients by a searchable name on my website. Some of the names that I use aren't even the real names! It's a very small world. Would you want a future potential boss of yours or your husband to see your labor and delivery or private moments between your new family? These are things that new expectant parents don't think about. Once it's out there on the Internet, you can never erase it.

(2) Your baby's private parts will never be shown in a photo, even if it's unidentifiable. Unfortunately, we live in a world where we have to worry about this. I see far too many birth photographers sharing photos with baby bits prominently shown. I am a mother of two little girls, so needless to say - seeing images violating the privacy of a minutes old baby saddens and angers me.

(3)  I do not require a model release to hire me. There are some birth photographers that will NOT accept you as a client unless you sign a model release. This is their right as a business owner to require, but it's also your right as a client to have privacy. So, if privacy is important to you, make sure that a model release isn't required and that they will not share any images without your express permission.

The truth is: I have so many amazing and emotional birth images that I would love for potential clients to see - but it's not my birth. It's yours. You, your partner, and your baby deserve the utmost privacy, respect, and discretion. Did you know that roughly 75% of my births are not shared online anywhere in any form?

(4) I never share links and passwords to birth films with inquiries or people who ask. I can tell you that I have run into midwives and doctors who were in attendance that ask if they can see the photos or video. I inform them that they must ask their patient and that I am not at liberty to share. Additionally, all potential clients who inquire must come to the studio to meet with me for a consultation.  These potential clients can then view birth films that I have been given permission to share - and they view them sitting right next to me on my iPad. There is no danger of your private moments being stolen and shared with the world.

Ready to book your birth session? I am completely booked for 2015 and have already filled my calendar through March 2016!  Contact me today to schedule a consult for The Birth Session, and watch this short 1.5 minute film to see what the experience of working with me is like. I can't wait to meet you and capture one of the most amazing days of your life!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | The Gardens

For the past year, my maternity sessions have had a choice of two locations: the field or the studio. I'm excited to announce a third location choice: the gardens! This special location is in intown Atlanta, and I shoot sessions there on weekdays during the late afternoons. There is very limited weekend availability for this location. The gardens are perfect for those who prefer a more manicured look with gorgeous architectural features - many of which are shown in the images below.

I loved shooting this session in the gardens last winter. Even though it was freezing cold in the month of December, my clients toughed it out and the final images were totally worth it! As a note, these dresses are not in my studio wardrobe as my client purchased them months before her session. I have many lovely options available for clients that would look beautiful in the gardens, and I offer complimentary styling assistance if you prefer to shop for your own outfit or use pieces already in your closet.

My maternity sessions are almost full for the year - I have limited availability remaining for 2015!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | In the studio

Laura contacted me at the last minute for a maternity session. She had taken a while to show in her pregnancy (a problem lots of us tall girls have, including me!) , so she decided at 36 weeks that she wanted to document her pregnancy. She decided on a studio session, and she came to my studio on Monday afternoon.

The first thing she did was go through all of the studio wardrobe options, and I made a few suggestions for what to wear. We had fun chatting during her session, and she was just a lovely client. I can't wait to share more images from her session, but for now, I'll post one of my all time favorite studio shots. Isn't she absolutely glowing?

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Little Feet

There's just something that I love about a baby sleeping contentedly in their mama's arms during their newborn session in my studio. I love when their little toes stick out. There's just something so perfectly sweet and completely innocent about their tiny feet.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Happiness matters

When Myka contacted me at the beginning of the summer to ask about a maternity shoot, I was excited! Myka is the mastermind and entrepreneur behind WAX Atlanta, BLINK Brow Bar, and BUFF Nail Bar, which is over by the Krog Street Market. She also has one of the coolest lifestyle blogs over at HighBrow Hippie. I've been a client at Wax almost since it opened, and I can't recommend the salon highly enough. If you're in Atlanta, definitely go and check them out for your pampering or waxing needs and then head over to the Krog Street Market for a bite to eat!

Myka's maternity shoot was ... in a word, FUN. Exactly how a pregnancy photoshoot should be. I'm not about the forced smiles or the fake cheesy poses where you look uncomfortable or awkward. I want to capture your pregnancy glow, and your real happiness and laughter. This is how you should remember one of the most special times in your life. I want my clients to look at their images and smile. Myka did just that when she viewed her images in the studio today, because she remembered exactly what her partner had said that she was laughing about and how happy she felt in that moment. This, my friends, is what photography is about for me. Emotional connection and powerful images to turn those happy memories into a tangible piece of history to hold onto forever. And when your baby is 5 years old, you can show them how happy you were when you were pregnant with them and how much they were loved and wanted before you had even held them in your arms.
