ATLANTA BABY PICTURES

Atlanta Baby Photographer | Oona's Nine Month Milestone Session

We recently featured Oona's newborn session, six month session, and her parents' maternity session. This is her 9 month milestone session!

Most clients opt for newborn, sitting, and first birthday sessions, but we have some clients choose to celebrate 3 months/100 days old and 9 months too. You can never have too many photographs!

Oona's mom chose to have her wear a traditional kimono for part of the session and then chose a sweet white eyelet lace dress from the studio wardrobe for the rest. Nine month sessions are some of my favorites... babies have such unique personality traits and pudgy little fingers and toes. I loved Oona's teensy little pigtails and made sure to document that for her mama as well.

Nine month sessions are relaxed and easygoing. We spend time just playing while I capture your baby being just who they are at that time in their life. I always ask parents to quietly sit on the couch and observe. While your intent may be to help, your baby can become confused if you're standing right behind the photographer calling to them. They don't know where to look, they're in a new environment, and they can quickly become overwhelmed. The studio is a calm and peaceful environment and I approach babies in the same way. The quieter, the better! Here are a few of my favorites from Oona's nine month session. I can't wait to share images from her FIRST BIRTHDAY session in a couple of days. This little girl LOVES birthday cake, as you will see!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Harper

I had last seen Candace and Brandin at their studio maternity session with me, which can be viewed by clicking here. I was so excited to hear that they had welcomed a little GIRL! They waited to find out if they were having a boy or a girl until birth, and since I did that with all three of my children, I always love getting to find out after their maternity session and see the excitement (and sometimes disbelief!).

When they came in for their newborn session, I (quietly!) squealed a little bit. Baby Harper was a tiny little peanut just under six pounds. She was an adorable tiny little peanut, and she slept like a champ. Candace and Brandin were just so sweet with her, and I loved seeing them as a brand new little family of three.

Candace elected to have Harper in some tiebacks for a portion of the session. I will never put a tieback on a baby's head that is not proportionate to them. There are no giant flower headbands the size of Texas here. All of my tiebacks are small, sweet, and dainty. It is ALWAYS up to mom whether or not they are used! Some mamas prefer that no tiebacks be used at all, and that's totally okay. Others like a mix, and others want one for every image. I'll work within your specific preferences!

We sailed through Harper's solo images and then started the parent and family images portion. Candace brought a taupe dress from home, and also chose a white lace dress from the studio wardrobe that caught her eye.

Isn't this family the cutest?! I love how in love Candace and Brandin are with each other and their new daughter. Images that capture that are my absolutely favorite and the ones that will be the most important in the future.

*As a note, this session was shot before the new white studio flooring was installed.

Atlanta Newborn & Family Photographer | What a difference a year makes

After newborn sessions, I often see my clients again for milestone sessions! The most popular milestone sessions are when babies are sitting unassisted (between 6-8 months) and then again at one year. I love comparing the newborn and one year photos with my clients, and I'm always amazed by how much babies change in that first year!

The first image was of her as a big sister again holding her tiny two week old brother on her lap. When I photographed his one year portrait and cake smash session, we decided to take another similar image. These two are the best of friends. She is his little mama, his protector, and encourager. She was there when he was born, and she correctly predicted that he would be a boy. She begs to go into his room when he wakes in the morning or from a nap, and his face lights up with joy when he sees her. She crawls around on the floor with him, and picks up his water cup countless times when he accidentally (or not so accidentally) drops it. I hope they're always close and there for each other, and I hope when they're adults they look at these images and smile.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Meriwether

When Kate contacted me for a newborn session and told me that they had named their new baby girl Meriwether, I just thought it was one of the cutest and most unique names I had heard in a while! I knew the name from the movie Sleeping Beauty, but had never met an actual person with the name until this session. I think it suits her just perfectly!

When the family arrived, they showed me the options they had brought from their closet. Moms are always welcome to borrow from the studio wardrobe, but the newborn preparation packet sent in advance of your session gives you guidelines of what to wear if you want to bring something from your own closet. My biggest goal is for you to be COMFORTABLE and also feel beautiful. That may be something from your own closet or from the studio - and it doesn't matter which it is. Dads should also feel comfortable and like themselves. Kate had brought several button downs and a regular v-neck pocketless cotton t-shirt as options for him. When I asked him, "Which is most who you are?", he pointed to the t-shirt. Moms, if your husband wears a t-shirt and is most comfortable in that, don't be afraid to let him wear that! When your child looks at those images, they're going to see their dad wearing what he normally wears. Choose a color that is flattering on him (not everyone looks good in white!), a fit that is comfortable for him, and you will all be happier for it. As a note, I do strongly discourage polo shirts for sessions as they do not photograph as well as a plain crew or v neck pocketless T or a button down.

Meriwether was a champion sleeper and didn't wake up at all during her solo portraits. She was comfortable and warm, and I just loved how she stretched and then curled up into a little ball. Her parents watched the session from the observation window.

These new parents were just so excited to have their baby girl with them in their arms, and were so much fun to talk to! We had a lot of fun during their session! The goal of all my sessions is authenticity: from your interactions with me, each other, and to your resulting images. In order to achieve this goal, I talk to my clients and get to know them throughout our time together.

Here are a few of my favorite images from this sweet family's session!

Atlanta Newborn Photography | Sweet new family of three

How sweet is this family? I had such a wonderful time working with them for their maternity, Fresh 48, and newborn sessions and look forward to seeing them in the studio again for milestone sessions! Many of my clients choose to book multiple sessions with me, and I love getting to know them along the way. Mom's top and dad's shirt are available as part of my studio wardrobe. I'm more than happy give suggestions for what to wear for your studio session if you prefer to bring your own clothing. Your experience is so important, so I walk you through everything to ensure that your images are classic, timeless, and beautiful. I want you to smile when you look at them and I want your children to see how happy you were to have them in your arms and how much you loved them. That's my goal for any client who works with me here at Lily Sophia Photography!

Many clients ask if high resolution files are included with their newborn collection. The answer is yes, along with a personal print release and a list of recommended consumer labs for printing. Every newborn collection also includes some tangible professionally printed artwork for your home, AND I love gifting all of my newborn clients a set of 25 fine paper announcements to send to friends and family. After your session, you'll come back to the studio to sift through your printed proofs while enjoying a snack and beverage from the studio fridge. We'll choose the images for your artwork and your birth announcement together, and you'll leave that day with your proof set and digital files ready to go. It's lots of fun, laid back, and I work with you every single step of the way to ensure a wonderful experience. Click here to read what previous clients have to say about working with me.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | The transition to motherhood

I really love when maternity clients choose to book Fresh 48 and a newborn session like this mama did. Seeing the change that takes place from when they are expecting, to that first day of wonder and amazement in the hospital with their new baby after their world has been turned upside down, to the pure and completely indescribable love for their new baby in the studio ... it's really incredible to see the change in a woman just by her countenance. The transition to motherhood is clearly visible in the images that I take since my goal is to capture the emotional connection between you, your partner, your unborn baby or brand new baby.  It's such an honor to be invited to document these precious and fleeting times in the lives of new families.
