While I love naturally posed newborn images as they focus on the tiny details of babies, I firmly believe lifestyle is most important. So many new parents think that they want only posed photos and later regret their choice. Lifestyle is important because it documents this time in your life as a family. I met this little guy at 10 days old. He was just the sweetest little snuggle bug. He was born in a homebirth in the water with Dawning Life Midwifery services. I offer more organic and natural "posed" newborn photos in conjunction with lifestyle. Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Max, 5 days old

I was so excited to see Sydney and Brock again after their maternity session and meet their 5 day old baby Max! Max was born at North Fulton Hospital in Alpharetta, Georgia with the ISIS midwives. They traveled from Marietta for their session, and we spent a couple of hours together. Max was such a good sleeper, super snuggly, and so adorable! I loved working with this brand new little family to capture the sweet moments that pass by in the blink of an eye.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Where to buy great maternity clothing in Atlanta

I've been pregnant twice. That's me 37 weeks pregnant in 2013 with my daughter Violet above - photo courtesy of Hailey Kemper of Wildflower Photography in Charlotte, NC. I loved dressing to show off the bump once I had it. Who says being pregnant means being frumpy? Not me! And you don't have to either. There are so many stylish options available out there to fit every budget. This is not a shopping guide for maternity sessions - if you're interested in reserving a maternity session with me, I have a fabulous studio wardrobe of beautiful pieces available to my clients. As part of the client experience, I conduct pre-session consultations where we go through your clothing together or go on a shopping trip if you prefer to purchase something yourself.
If you're in the Atlanta area, there are some great places to shop for maternity clothing. Since maternity clothing is really only worn for a relatively short time, breaking the bank to buy an entire new wardrobe isn't an option for most.
I'm 6 feet tall, so Gap's maternity clothes were a lifesaver because of their options for tall women. If you sign up for Gap's emails, they often have 35-40% off codes. I loved their jeans and their perfect fit maternity tank. I also bought some regular non-maternity foldover maxi skirts from Gap that were wonderful for pregnancy and afterwards. These clothes lasted through two pregnancies and still have life in them for my third, whenever that happens.
I haven't personally shopped there, but H&M has some great maternity options. I have several good friends who love H&M maternity clothing and rave about it. I've heard that it's a great option for more petite women, so if you're on the shorter side, definitely check them out!
Old Navy is another budget option. I loved their linen maternity shorts the summer I was pregnant with my second daughter. They weren't too hot to wear, and the waist panel was extremely comfortable. I also loved Old Navy's regular jersey tanks in long. They actually fit me for my entire pregnancies even though they weren't maternity. Old Navy's quality isn't at the same level of Gap though, so be prepared for the clothing to fade with washing or shrink. Their regular maternity shirts did not work for me for this reason!
If price is not as much of a concern and you want a dress that is simple and incredibly chic, Isabella Oliver makes amazing and comfortable maternity clothes that can be worn even after you're not pregnant. I have several pieces from Isabella Oliver and the quality is amazing. I'm wearing an Isabella Oliver dress in my maternity photo at the beginning of this post. The clothes are super comfortable too, which is key when you're not! If you fall in love with their maternity clothes, they have a sister line called Baukjen that is non maternity. Did I mention I'm a huge fan of both?!
Izzy Maternity has two locations in Atlanta as well and they are a boutique store with wonderful employees that can help you pick out the perfect outfit for a wedding, or just around town. They carry fun accessories too, and have locations in both Alpharetta and in Atlanta at Peachtree Battle shopping center.
A Pea in the Pod (located in Phipps Plaza) also has a great selection and sometimes awesome finds on their clearance rack. A budget tip is to look in Macy's maternity department over at Lenox Mall. They often have the exact same pieces but at much less. They often have free shipping deals online… and sometimes I would just order enough to meet the minimum for free shipping, try on at home, and return in store. Sometimes there just isn't enough time to go shopping! :)

I'm always excited to work with families to create beautiful artwork for their homes. A lot of other photographers choose me to capture their families. It's such an honor (and a little bit nerve wracking!) when a talented person in the industry places their trust in me to document sweet family moments! Milissa and Dmitry were wonderful to work with, and their sweet boys were just too cute. Alexei had just turned 1, so these photos doubled as Alexei's one year photos with a family session. They drove from their home in Sandy Springs to one of my favorite locations in the Atlanta area, and had fun interacting as a family while I stood back behind the lens. We even managed to take a few of just Milissa and Dmitry, as the last time they had photos taken of just them as a couple was at their engagement session! The last time I had seen Kerry was for her gorgeous maternity session. Kerry wanted to schedule a session for herself and her new baby boy, James, who is now 5 months old! Needless to say, Kerry is a loyal client, and I love working with her. We planned her wardrobe together after a trip to Anthropologie, and met at a park before sunset. When planning the session, Kerry let me know that she wanted some photos to document their nursing relationship, and that she loved James' thick tummy. I made a mental note of that and made sure to capture those things for her to look back on.
After viewing her images, Kerry selected several to display in their own home and as gifts for family. I'm looking forward to their family session this fall!

Tina contacted me after being referred to me by another client. She and I spent a few weeks planning their maternity shoot, and I assisted her with her wardrobe selection, which I provide as a complimentary service to all clients! The day we originally scheduled ended up being rained out, but I always have a backup date scheduled just in case. The backup date was absolutely gorgeous, and we had such a fun session. I drove out to their home in Alpharetta, and then we went to one of my favorite locations. Tina and John were one of the most romantic couples that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I first met Jessica and her partner, David at Izzy Maternity in Buckhead. She and I started talking and when I learned that David was a photographer, I mentioned that I was a birth photographer here in Atlanta. Jessica decided that she wanted to book my services even though she had a scheduled c-section planned. So many potential clients ask if a c-section will make their birth any less beautiful and the answer is absolutely not!

Norcross Newborn Photographer | Baby Grace
On July 25th, I was at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA for a birth and when I finished documenting the birth of Jansen, I headed over to see Crystal and Philip. The last time I had seen them was during their amazing maternity session, and I was so excited to find out if they'd had a little boy or girl since they were waiting until birth to find out.
Verdict: It's a girl! Grace was so beautiful, and so sweet. Her daddy was absolutely enamored with her, and both of her parents were just in awe of her. I love seeing the emotion and the transformation that couples make when they become new parents. It's hard to describe, but you can see a marked difference in their eyes. Norcross Maternity Photographer | Crystal and Philip

This was the first one of Crystal and Philip's upcoming sessions with me since they reserved maternity, Fresh 48, and Fresh Baby sessions. I loved Crystal's lace top so much that I added it to my studio wardrobe for future clients! We had a summer storm roll in during our shoot and had to camp out for a bit, but without that storm we wouldn't have had the amazing silhouette photo you'll see further down in this post. Part of being an on location photographer is being flexible to adapt to constantly changing environments. Being a birth photographer here in Atlanta has been great training for that!

Krystle and Teddy are so much fun, and I loved their maternity session! I was so excited to work with them again. I headed to the home of Krystle and Teddy to meet their 3 week old son, Theo. Theo is a BIG boy, and his parents are in love! The last time I had seen Krystle and Teddy was at their maternity session, so I was excited to see them both and hear how Theo's birth went. Krystle and Teddy were interested in lifestyle, so I traveled to their home and captured their normal day to day interaction with Theo. I was SO excited to see Amie and Daniel again for their family/Fresh Baby session. Baby Ellie was 8 weeks old when I came, and she was such a doll baby! I first met this mama via FaceTime since she lived over an hour away and wasn't up to traveling to interview me. We connected right away and by the end of the conversation she had decided to hire me to document her birth. We became friends (as I do with all of my clients) and texted each other quite a lot in the months leading up to her birth. Traditional Birth Services of Atlanta with midwife Brenda Parrish and her assistant midwife in training, Cindy Morrow attended the birth.
