I spend some time during my newborn sessions capturing all the little details of your sweet baby. All the tiny things that make up the whole. Their little fingers, cute little noses, pouty lips, and long eyelashes. I want my clients to have these memories for a lifetime and to be able to leaf through their album when their baby is all grown up and remember exactly how they looked. The rest of my newborn sessions are focused on you with your new baby and portraits of your baby in naturally occurring poses. You won't see any babies being put into contorted positions in a basket or resting their chin on their hands in my studio.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | New additions to the studio wardrobe!

I love having a studio wardrobe for clients. It's one less thing for you to worry about when planning your session, and so many of my clients are relieved that they don't have to shop for something while pregnant. I have an assortment of dresses to fit XS-XL and for every kind of body type. Some clients love their arms and want to show those off, while others would prefer to keep them covered.

The best part of my studio wardrobe? The pieces aren't just for maternity clients - they're for newborn clients and family sessions too! I carefully hand select all additions to my studio wardrobe to fit BOTH pregnant and non pregnant moms. Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Big Sister

As the mother of two sweet girls that are just 22 months apart, one of my favorite things about getting to be their mom has been watching the relationship develop between the two of them. I still clearly remember the moment that Lily met her little sister for the first time - the look of awe on her face as she held her for the first time and feeling like my heart would burst when I saw them together. I am fortunate enough to have a photo of that moment, so it is a memory forever frozen in time, and will be one of my favorite images for the rest of my life. 

I love when older siblings come into the studio to participate in newborn sessions, and my goal is to capture their excitement and amazement over their brand new baby as well as the natural interactions between them.

This little cutie pie was so great with her little brother. I was actually there in the hospital room with her family when she met him for the very first time as part of their Fresh 48 session at Northside Hospital. 

She arrived ready to have fun at the newborn session a couple of weeks later, and was so excited to participate. This big sister just loved holding baby brother and playing with his hands. It was so precious how she talked softly to him and held his hand in hers. 

I always start with sibling and whole family shots as soon as baby is sound asleep so that the older kids can be on their merry way and go and play once we finish up with them . We all know toddlers don't have the longest attention span, so I work hard to make newborn sessions as fun,  painless, and easy as possible for all involved!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby smiles and little toes

Sometimes I get lucky during newborn sessions and catch the hint of a smile. I know it's supposedly "just gas" but I'm not sure I really believe that. I think babies might actually have something to smile about… after nine months of being inside, they're out, and have snuggled with their loving parents pretty much non stop. What's not to smile about?

During my sessions, I focus on the little parts that make your baby who they are. Things like their teensy little toes (trust me, they are TINY… and you will wonder how in the world baby feet can grow as fast as they do), their little fists, eyelashes, and sweet pouty lips. You may think you can memorize your baby's every feature with the hours upon hours you spend staring at them in those first few weeks but I'm here to tell you, the mind's memory fades and is not accurate. I know this myself with my two little girls. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at their newborn pictures and marveled at how different they look than what I remember. I'm so glad that I have their newborn days preserved with a memories that won't ever fade away and that I can share those with them. It is my honor to be able to give new families the same gift, and the driving force behind my passion for newborn photography and why I shoot the way I do.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Do Newborn Sessions Include Parents?

I have so many inquiries for newborn sessions ask me if parents are included in my newborn session. I have to admit that I'm always surprised by the question because I cannot imagine a newborn session only being of the baby! Two parents created a beautiful new baby, brought them into the world, and enveloped them in love. Why would they not be included? Images of new parents with their newborns are the driving force behind my sessions, and I believe they are so important. Twenty years from now, you will not reach for the photo of your baby all by themselves. You will reach for the photo that reminds you of how tiny they were in your arms. The photo that reminds you of how soft their skin was, and that sweet newborn smell that fades all too quickly. Fifty years from now, your child will not reach for the photo of them by themselves. They will reach for the photos that show how much you loved them. That is what newborn photography is about for me: capturing the powerful love that parents have for their new babies, and all those little details (fingers, eyelashes, teeny tiny toes) that will change so quickly that you won't believe your eyes.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | The quiet moments

I love newborn sessions in my studio. New parents love to get out after being housebound since my studio is often the first trip out that they're making. I keep it low stress and plan for late arrivals, since that first trip out of the house can sometimes be a little chaotic with last minute unforeseen delays. As I tell my clients, "Welcome to parenthood, where you automatically add 15-20 minutes to your arrival time estimate." The studio wardrobe is available to new moms to use, so you don't even need to worry about trying to find something to wear! Baby doesn't need anything either since I have all the blankets and wraps they'll need. We'll discuss what your partner should wear in our pre planning, so you'll be set to go as soon as you arrive. 

My newborn sessions are a mix of lifestyle and organic baby-led posing. What does this mean? For lifestyle, I simply have my clients hold and admire their new baby. You've had lots of practice since you held them for the first time when they were born! For baby led posing, I follow the lead of the baby and place them in natural positions that they assume on their own. I do not twist or bend them or place them into contorted positions that could potentially reduce blood flow or be unsafe. Your baby stays asleep and comfortable, and the session is relaxed and stress free.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Daddy's Little Girl

One of my favorite things about newborn sessions here in my Atlanta natural light studio is the connection that I see between parents and their new babies...ESPECIALLY daddies and their sweet little baby girls!

How much sweeter does this get? This image is what brand new fatherhood is all about to me. I am definitely biased because I have two little girls and I see how well their father loves them every day. I love that this little girl will be able to see this image when she's a grown woman and see how tenderly her father loved and protected her. This image says it all to me, and is at the very heart of why I love newborn photography. Atlanta Newborn Photographer | New Family of 4

This sweet family drove to my studio from Smyrna for their newborn session. Big sister was such a sweetie, and just as cute as her little brother! I love watching the wonder of older siblings as they notice a new little person in their family, and it's equally as amazing to see how the hearts of the new parents expand to double the love before. As a mother of two little girls, I remember wondering how I would ever be able to love the second just as much as I did my first. How would I ever fairly divide it? I'm here to tell you that you really don't need to worry about it! As soon as that second baby is placed in your arms, the love only multiplies from there. 

This is one of my favorite images from this family's session, and one of theirs too... they loved it so much, in fact, that a large canvas of it now hangs in their home.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Henry

I was so excited to meet Henry and his parents, who traveled from their Buckhead home for their newborn photos to my natural light studio in historic Grant Park in Atlanta. While I do offer in home sessions, many clients prefer to come to the studio for their newborn pictures because they know that the lighting here is perfection. (Bonus: no worrying about the state of your home!)

Isn't Henry absolutely precious? He was so warm and snuggly, and his parents had followed my baby preparation tips carefully prior to their session. As a result, Henry slept peacefully for his entire session, and we were wrapped up in less than two hours! Not every session is finished that quickly, but my preparation tips do shorten session times if they are followed. Here are a few images from Henry's session.

While baby details are so important, I also love capturing your new baby with YOU. These are the images that are special and the ones you will reach for when you want to remember how tiny your baby was. Perspective is everything. You can't remember how small their little head was unless you see them cradled in your arms.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby rolls

I love welcoming newborns and their families for newborn sessions in my natural light studio here in Atlanta, GA. My newborn sessions are a blend of simple, organic posing and some lifestyle. It is so important to capture all of those little details of your baby that you can't see yourself unless you're standing in front of a mirror and paying attention.

This image is a perfect example of what I mean.

This father is cradling his baby boy to his chest. He can't see how tiny his son is and how his hand covers his son. He can't see the sweet little baby rolls and how snuggly his little boy looks. Except, now ... he can. Because he has a photo of it to treasure for a lifetime. So, someday when his son asks for the keys to the car, or calls his dad out of breath to say, "Dad, the baby is coming!", he can reach for this image and remember exactly how it felt to hold his newborn son and how little he was.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Making your memories tangible

I photograph newborn sessions here in Atlanta in my natural light studio, and really enjoy meeting new little babies and their wonderful parents. Being able to capture images of parents with their new babies is so rewarding. Knowing that someday these babies will grow up and look at the photos and SEE how much their parents loved them gives me great satisfaction in my job. I'm a mother too, and I understand firsthand how much these newborn images will mean to you when your baby isn't a baby anymore. My own daughters are now 3 years old and 16 months. They are often too busy for their mama, and I think back to the long nights of the newborn days, how I studied their every feature, and how they were so tiny in my arms. The truth is, if I didn't have photographs from that time, I wouldn't remember all of those little details. The good news is... I don't have to worry about it because those memories are in tangible form in prints and an album. Let's make sure your newborn memories are too.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Daddies are important too

I recently had a newborn session in my Atlanta natural light studio, and had one of the most involved fathers to date. This father wanted to be in the photos with his newborn son, and was eager to create beautiful images for an album. I do not pose babies completely naked, so this little guy kept his diaper on. I keep my studio warm and toasty so that babies are comfortable and sleep well. While his mother was pregnant with him, both parents wore a pendant with the archangel Michael, which is what they named their little boy after. If you look carefully, you can see the pendant on the father's chest in this image. Since the pendants have such special meaning for this family, I knew it was important to have his father keep it on for their photos. 

While I love motherhood portraiture, I also believe that images of babies and children with their fathers are equally as important. Your children need to see how strong their daddies are, how much their daddies love them, and how tender their daddies were with them when they were babies. I have found that fathers (and most men in general) often do not understand the emotional importance of photographs. My own husband is included in this generalization. I have a very dear friend who lost her father to cancer a few years ago. We were on a trip with them when our first daughter was an infant, and my husband didn't want me to take a picture of him holding our daughter. Our friend turned to him, put her hand on his arm, and said "I have many photos of my father. I don't have anywhere near enough photos of us together. And now that he's gone, photographs are the only thing that I have left." My husband  hugged her and turned to me with a nod, and I took the picture. 

Be in the photos. Your children will be grateful for it someday. 

My newborn sessions are a blend of posed and lifestyle. Clients often remark on how easy and relaxed their session was at the end of it as we are packing up, and that they were expecting it to be more stressful. Your baby always leads the way, and we work around their needs the day of their session. There are so many beautiful images that can be created with baby in your arms, even if they aren't asleep.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Michael

I was so excited to see Erica again! She was last in studio for a beautiful intimate maternity session, and we had a lot of fun choosing her favorite dresses from the studio wardrobe. Baby Michael was such a sweet little baby, and he slept for the entire time! He is by far my fastest newborn yet, as we wrapped up in just under 90 minutes. 

Many mothers think that they only want photos of their newborn and don't want to be in them. You may feel the same way after having given birth recently. Your body is in a strange sort of limbo, and you may not feel your best. Rest assured though, that even if you don't feel beautiful - you are. The glow of your new motherhood will be apparent. All you need to do is admire your baby and snuggle them, and I'll take care of the rest. Because when your baby leaves for college, the images of you holding them are the ones you will reach for to remember how small they felt cradled in your arms. Every client that I had who felt a little bit reluctant to be in the photos told me after our session when they viewed their images that they were so grateful to have those memories in tangible form forever. Don't worry: my sessions are a blend of your baby alone and also with you and your partner so it's the best of both worlds!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | The Moments that Matter

Newborn sessions here in my Atlanta, Georgia natural light studio aren't just about posed photos. While I do include some organic and natural posing on the beanbag, the moments that are most important are the moments between you and your new baby. These moments are pure. They can't be posed. They're what you're going to look at years from now, and when you do: you're going to feel the same overwhelming emotions as you did when the image was captured. That is the point of photography, and the goal I have for every session that I shoot. 

While I appreciate the artistic effort that goes into creating photos of babies with their hands propping up their chin, it's not something I shoot here in the studio. I believe that babies should be captured just as they are. Their tiny little fingers, nose, lips, flaky skin, and pouty sleeping lips. Babies are so beautiful in their own right. I don't distract from that beauty and innocence with heavy props or themes. As a mother of two daughters, my most treasured images are the ones I have with my sweet baby girls in my arms, just as we were in that moment. This is what I provide to clients, because that is what I love. 

I adore the admiration and love emanating from this mother as she takes in every detail and feature of her beautiful baby's face. For those of us who have experienced motherhood, you know what I'm talking about. You can't get over the fact that you made something this beautiful and that this tiny little person is yours. You also can't quite believe after 9 months of waiting, they're finally in your arms. The responsibility is humbling, exciting, and overwhelming all at once. For those who are expecting and haven't experienced motherhood just yet… just you wait. The best is yet to come.

Beauty is in the simple. You won't find me putting newborns into unnatural contorted positions or distracting from their beautiful features and sweet details with heavy props. Instead, you'll find me making my babies cozy and comfortable. I focus on capturing their sweet details: their shock of newborn hair, their little lips, noses, and fingers, and their tiny little toes. I capture what you will want to remember as you leaf through your album when they aren't your tiny baby anymore.

I only accept a limited number of clients per month due to the amount of personalized time and attention each of my clients enjoy.
