Rob contacted me to schedule a last minute maternity session in the field as a surprise for his wife's birthday! He is not the first person this year to schedule a surprise maternity session, and I'm pleased to report that all of the recipients have been absolutely thrilled. Rob brought Katy to the studio the day before their session to try on pieces from the wardrobe, and she fell in love with two of the dresses. All booked clients have access to my studio wardrobe which has pieces that appeal to a wide variety of style preferences and can fit size 0-16. I will work with you to choose the most flattering pieces for your body type and skin tone. If you choose not to wear anything from the wardrobe, I'm still here to assist you in styling your session wardrobe for the best results. Sometimes it's hard to shop your own closet and you just need a little help from another set of eyes who knows what will photograph well!
We headed out to the field the next day, and the weather was absolutely perfect. Katy had done her nails for the session in a pastel blue since they're expecting a baby boy in just a couple of weeks. Our session was relaxed and a lot of fun. It's safe to say that Rob's birthday surprise was a success!

Rich and Devi initially came to the studio to meet me and talk about The Birth Session. During their visit, they decided they also wanted to work with me for maternity and newborn!
Devi knew exactly which dress she wanted to wear for her maternity session as she had seen it on worn by another client on my Instagram and she had a clear vision for what she wanted from our time together. During her maternity wardrobe fitting, she tried the dress on to confirm it was what she wanted, and we discussed what Rich should plan to wear.
Devi knew she wanted all of her maternity images to have an open front since she loved the look of bare belly images. Not all of my clients do - and this particular dress can also be wore closed for those who prefer not to show their belly.
During their maternity session, we got to know each other and I learned all about how they met each other and fell in love. They both have a great sense of humor and were great to work with! Rich loves his wife, and it's very evident in how he looks at her. I can't wait to photograph the birth of their son and his subsequent newborn session!

Lindsay and Matt had just relocated here from Tennessee and didn't know of any photographers. When Lindsay joined a local online moms group, I was recommended by other members of the group. She checked out my website, loved what she saw, and contacted me to reserve a very last minute maternity and newborn session since she needed to get in that same week due to her husband's work and travel schedule. Fortunately, I had availability and was able to work them in!
When Lindsay came into the studio for her wardrobe fitting a few days before her scheduled session, we instantly hit it off. We have very similar personalities and approaches to life, and by the end of our time together it felt like we were old friends.
A couple of days later, we met at the gardens for their session before sunset, and took our time walking around the gardens. The most common question I'm asked is "What do we do?" The answer? "Love each other. That being said, I do help with flattering posing and guided natural interaction so you are not on your own there.

I first met Roxanne this past summer in mid-August when she scheduled a complimentary consultation for The Birth Session. Many of my clients schedule their sessions with me months in advance, and I love advance planners! I cannot guarantee my availability if clients wait until the last minute, and it's always so disappointing when I have to turn a client away because I don't have the room.
After our initial meeting, Roxanne chose to book The Birth Session and a maternity session in the field. We scheduled her maternity session for February, and she came into the studio a couple of weeks beforehand with her mother to choose a dress from the studio wardrobe. We also discussed what her husband should wear, and I enjoyed getting to know her lovely mama during their visit.
Roxanne and Zach had gotten married in Boston in the month of March, and had outdoor wedding photos taken so they weren't at all fazed by the idea of an outdoor winter session in Georgia. Many clients are worried about what winter images will look like, and I always assure them that they're beautiful and are not at all drab or dreary. The weather the day of Roxanne and Zach's maternity session was a bit chilly, but not bitterly cold, and the sunset was absolutely gorgeous in the field.

When Mary contacted me, she was interested in quite a few sessions! She chose to book maternity, Fresh 48, and newborn sessions. I love when clients decide to book more than one session because it means I get to see them more than once. I really enjoy getting to know my clients and encouraging them as they become mothers for the first time, or for the second, third, or fourth!
Mary and Matt met me at the field location, and we spent the entire time laughing despite Matt's initial misgivings because he's "not a picture person". I hear this a lot from so many men who had a bad experience with their wedding or engagement photographer. Dads are always thrilled to hear that I am not going to make them stand in front of my camera for two hours, strike a pose, or hold their hands in the shape of a heart over their partner's belly. Instead, all I ask you to do is love your partner. I'll take care of the rest.

Kristina contacted us at 36 weeks pregnant asking if there was any availability for a studio maternity session. She knew exactly which dresses she wanted to wear from the studio wardrobe from reading through the website. and we scheduled her to come in that same week. Even though my general scheduling guideline is for maternity sessions to take place between 30-34 weeks, this is not a hard and fast rule. Sometimes shorter clients or clients carrying multiples want to schedule between 24-28 weeks. Others wait until the very last minute and schedule at 40 weeks pregnant. The risk of scheduling a session past 37 weeks is that you'll miss out if you end up delivering early. This happened to me with my third baby. I had my session scheduled for a Saturday and he decided to come the Wednesday before at exactly 37 weeks. I'm still a little bit sad about it because he was my last baby, and I have maternity images from my pregnancies with his older sisters, but not with him.
When Kristina and Tony showed up at the studio, I was delighted to see that he had chosen an outfit that worked perfectly. He informed me he had researched and looked at the website before selecting what he would wear. If it had been a test, he would have passed with flying colors.
There was quite a big height difference between the two: 15 inches to be exact. Kristina was 5'2", and Tony was 6'5". Big height differences are not a big deal, as I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to that!
Kristina brought a gorgeous flower crown with her, and it went perfectly with one of the dresses in my wardrobe. This is a split front dress, which means that you can choose to wear the dress open or closed. Every client is different in terms of preference, and I photograph what you are comfortable with!

Abby contacted me in November to schedule her maternity session right before Christmas. She came to the studio and fell in love with one of the dresses, and her husband Charlie elected to borrow one of the studio shirts that I keep on hand for men to borrow. My studio wardrobe is available to all booked clients to borrow from for their sessions. I have carefully chosen my maternity wardrobe which fits a range of sizes 0-16, and am always adding new pieces!
It was a cold and overcast December day when we met at the field. Clients sometimes worry about whether or not their images will still be beautiful if it's not sunny outside. The answer can be found in the images from this session. I LOVE overcast days just as much as sunny days and they are just as beautiful!
A question I am often asked is if I pose my clients during sessions. Other than some guided direction for natural interaction, not really! I often give verbal prompts to my clients during sessions to help them interact the way that they normally would if I weren't there. Most people aren't used to being in front of a camera and freeze up a little bit, so it's completely normal to feel like you're not sure what you're supposed to do. It's part of my job as your photographer to connect with you and help you connect with each other. At the same time, I don't ever want a client to look at their images from a session and think to themselves "What on earth were we doing? That's so fake and posed." I want you to look at your photos and smile and remember the moments that you shared during your session, how excited you were to welcome your sweet baby, and how much love you had for each other and your child in each frame. Pregnancy is such an exciting (and scary!) and precious time, and it's over before we know it. Even if you're uncomfortable, or don't feel beautiful in your pregnant body, let's celebrate! Your baby and the love that you and your partner share for each other and your child deserve to be celebrated and remembered forever.

You may recognize Kisha from my short video about the studio experience. She was kind enough to participate in the video for me in advance of her actual maternity session. Kisha scheduled her session to take place when she was 30 weeks pregnant, and it was the perfect timing. I like to schedule maternity sessions for between 30-34 weeks, since most expectant mothers are showing well, but are still able to move well. I have had other clients reserve last minute sessions, but there's always a risk of going into labor early before the session takes place!
Kisha came to the studio in advance of her session start time for our resident HMUA, Margaret, to apply her makeup. Many of my clients add on Margaret's services to their maternity and/or newborn sessions, and her application is absolutely flawless. If you're interested in booking Margaret's services along with your session, be sure to note that when you inquire.
I always enjoy studio sessions since my clients get to play dress up with the studio wardrobe. I have a wide array of dresses ranging from size 0-16 that look stunning on expectant and new moms. Kisha already felt absolutely stunning with her makeup application, and loved the dresses that we chose for her to wear. I loved working with Kisha, and can't wait to meet her sweet baby girl in a couple of months.

Emily and Penelope came to the studio for a mommy and me maternity session. I have a studio wardrobe for expectant and new mothers, and it's always fun to pick dresses! Penelope was super excited to assist with the dress selection and chose a tulle skirted "princess" dress for Emily to wear. I loved working with the two of them and watching their interaction for sweet moments of connection.
Emily waits to find out until birth if it's a boy or a girl, so it was fun to discuss the difference between her two pregnancies. I am terrible at guessing whether it will be a boy or a girl, so I don't even try. We had some good conversation about what it's like to welcome a second child into the family. I think every parent expecting a second is a bit nervous about how it will all work, and how they'll possibly be able to love the second as much as the first. I'm here to tell you that the cliche you hear so often, "Love multiplies, not divides", is absolutely true. You'll fall in love with your new baby in a whole new way, and you'll fall in love with your older child as you watch them assume the role of big sibling. You'll also fall even more in love with your partner than the first time around as they settle into being a parent of two with you.

I have found that when photographing toddlers, it's best to let them be and just interact naturally. This allows me to capture them as they really are and creates genuine moments that aren't forced or posed.

Did you know that I partner with an absolutely amazing hair and makeup artist here in Atlanta? Margaret has a key to my studio, and will meet you here in advance of your session. If you're a newborn client, she'll meet you when you arrive and get started while I begin the session with your baby. You'll hop up on the makeup chair, show her the dress(es) you plan to wear from the studio wardrobe, and she'll start her magic while you enjoy some refreshments from the studio fridge and snack basket. Your partner can relax on the couch while you're being worked on.
This gorgeous mama worked with Margaret for her makeup, and the results are absolutely stunning. Kisha commented that she never would have been able to pull this look off herself, and was so happy to have everything taken care of for her. Manasa contacted me in November to reserve her maternity session in the field for mid February. We met on a chilly and windy day at the field, and they were both total troupers! I work very quickly and shoot with two camera bodies with my two preferred lenses rather than switching lenses constantly to be efficient for my clients. Nobody wants to stand out in the cold or heat any longer than necessary. My sessions do not incorporate cheesy poses or props because I want you to look natural and have fun together! I'll give my clients some guided direction if they're a little nervous, but in only takes a few minutes before we're all laughing and having a good time. Being photographed should be an experience that you enjoy, not a painful or awkward one! My entire client experience is designed around this philosophy. I love hearing my clients say, "That was so much fun!" after the session is over, and that's exactly what I strive for.

Shannon came to the studio in Grant Park for her maternity session on a cold January day. She brought nothing except herself, and made herself comfortable with a drink from the studio fridge as she sat in the hair and makeup chair. I've partnered with a fabulous HMUA who will meet you here at the studio if you want to add on her services to your maternity or newborn session. Margaret understands exactly how to apply your makeup and do your hair to make your images absolutely stunning - but the best part is that you still look like yourself!
After Shannon's hair and makeup were ready to go, we did a few test shots to make sure nothing needed to be adjusted. Then came the fun part of selecting the different dresses. I always enjoy making suggestions of dresses to wear from my studio wardrobe for my clients, because I know what will look beautiful on different body types. Client personality comes into play too, as some clients love a boho look, others love ethereal, and others love a little glamour. I've got something for everyone!

When Amber contacted me a few weeks ago about reserving a maternity session in the studio, I noticed that her area code was for Nashville, TN. I found out that she actually lived in Nashville and was driving four hours to Atlanta for her session! This is not the first time I've had a client drive from several hours away to work with me (I've had clients from Michigan and South Carolina come for sessions with me), but I'm always honored when I hear clients want to spend extra travel time to have me be their photographer. Amber came to the studio the weekend before her shoot for her maternity fitting and to look through the dresses. She had seen several dresses already that previous clients had worn, and knew exactly what she wanted to try on. I think she tried on over 10, and selected a total of three. The following weekend she returned to the studio with her husband, and we had a lot of fun shooting her session! She looked absolutely gorgeous in the dresses that she chose, and I'm so excited to share more from her session over the coming weeks.

When Shay contacted me to reserve her maternity session, she set up time to come to the studio for a complimentary wardrobe fitting and to meet me beforehand. For the past year, my maternity sessions have had a choice of two locations: the field or the studio. I'm excited to announce a third location choice: the gardens! This special location is in intown Atlanta, and I shoot sessions there on weekdays during the late afternoons. There is very limited weekend availability for this location. The gardens are perfect for those who prefer a more manicured look with gorgeous architectural features - many of which are shown in the images below.
I loved shooting this session in the gardens last winter. Even though it was freezing cold in the month of December, my clients toughed it out and the final images were totally worth it! As a note, these dresses are not in my studio wardrobe as my client purchased them months before her session. I have many lovely options available for clients that would look beautiful in the gardens, and I offer complimentary styling assistance if you prefer to shop for your own outfit or use pieces already in your closet.

Laura contacted me at the last minute for a maternity session. She had taken a while to show in her pregnancy (a problem lots of us tall girls have, including me!) , so she decided at 36 weeks that she wanted to document her pregnancy. She decided on a studio session, and she came to my studio on Monday afternoon.

When Myka contacted me at the beginning of the summer to ask about a maternity shoot, I was excited! Myka is the mastermind and entrepreneur behind WAX Atlanta, BLINK Brow Bar, and BUFF Nail Bar, which is over by the Krog Street Market. She also has one of the coolest lifestyle blogs over at HighBrow Hippie. I've been a client at Wax almost since it opened, and I can't recommend the salon highly enough.
