Gerica contacted me several months in advance of her maternity session. Her maternity pictures were extremely important to her, and she had a specific vision in mind. My work lined up with that vision, so I was pleased to work with her. She sent over several photos of dresses that she was considering for her session, and I gave her my input and advice on the best selection and sizing. The dress she chose was perfect, and had split front to allow for some of the open front bare belly images that she wanted.

Gerica's husband was a real sweetie and lots of fun to be around. He high fived me at the end of our session since it only took about 25 minutes! I keep my maternity sessions easy for expectant parents and don't require them to move around a lot. My sessions are about natural interaction and emotional connection between couples. We always end up laughing a lot - every dad comments at the end about how much easier (and fun) it was then they thought it would be! 

Baby Harper has since arrived and is GORGEOUS just like her mommy! Congrats to the new parents!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | New additions to the studio wardrobe!

I love having a studio wardrobe for clients. It's one less thing for you to worry about when planning your session, and so many of my clients are relieved that they don't have to shop for something while pregnant. I have an assortment of dresses to fit XS-XL and for every kind of body type. Some clients love their arms and want to show those off, while others would prefer to keep them covered.

The best part of my studio wardrobe? The pieces aren't just for maternity clients - they're for newborn clients and family sessions too! I carefully hand select all additions to my studio wardrobe to fit BOTH pregnant and non pregnant moms. Atlanta Maternity Photographer | An intimate studio session

My maternity sessions are not all done outdoors. I have many clients who choose the studio. Sometimes it's because they aren't outdoor people, and Atlanta can be oppressively hot during the summer! And sometimes it's because they prefer more intimate maternity images. This gorgeous mama and I had so much fun shooting her session in the studio! Erica arrived with her hair and makeup done, and looked absolutely fabulous!

Many clients are nervous about the way they look since the body changes so much during pregnancy. Rest assured, I know exactly how to photograph pregnant mamas at the most flattering and beautiful angles. You may be nervous at the beginning of our session (this is normal!) but I promise to have you laughing and relaxed by the end! Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Enjoying the Wait

This sweet couple was such a joy to work with! They drove over an hour to have me photograph their maternity session. Mama's sister is a professional photographer from back home in Iowa and helped her choose a photographer here in Atlanta… which just so happened to be me. I seem to photograph a lot of photographers and their family members, which is just fine with me! This couple elected to wait until delivery to find out if they were having a boy or girl, which I think is just so much fun. (I waited to find out with my two girls until they were born, so I may be a little bit biased!) 

What's your guess? Boy or girl?! 

I've been so lucky with gorgeous weather this summer for all of my sessions, and this was no exception. The weather was cooler, and the sunset was perfect with just a few clouds overhead. We shot their in 26 minutes. My maternity sessions take no longer than 30-45 minutes, so almost every single expectant dad is a big fan when we wrap up. I've heard stories about outdoor sessions taking up to two hours, and just can't imagine how that's any fun.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Evening Light

I love when expectant mamas contact me to photograph them at what I consider to be one of the heights of beauty in their lives. So much planning goes into all of my sessions because the resulting final images are dependent on the details. The most important details affecting your session are the time of day at which I shoot, and your wardrobe selection.

I only shoot sunset sessions. It's not always the most convenient time for everyone, but it guarantees the most beautiful light. It's also known as the "golden hour", and I won't shoot at any other time. Why? Because I cannot give clients the sun soaked gorgeous images that I'm known for as my signature style at any other time of day.

Wardrobe is also such an important detail of every session! I walk my clients through every step of the selection process. The choice of colors, the way the pieces fit and drape, and the fabric are all taken into consideration. 75% of clients (like this mama) choose to borrow from my studio wardrobe which fits a wide variety of sizes and body types. If it wouldn't look absolutely stunning during a shoot, it's not in my wardrobe. Other clients prefer to purchase something of their very own to keep, and I love helping them select and pull together pieces. We live in such a high tech world that online shopping via mobile and texting links for feedback is a snap. I'm also available to meet at a few local stores in the area for clients booking a full session. My styling services are complimentary to booked clients and part of the Lily Sophia Photography client experience! I want you to LOVE your images, and I want them to be timeless so that when you look at them decades from now you aren't laughing and shaking your head at the outfit you thought was a good idea at the time.

This couple was so much fun to work with, and mama borrowed her dress from my studio wardrobe which is available to all clients. My studio wardrobe is carefully curated and I have personally chosen every piece in it. Many clients are surprised to see that the majority of the studio clothing isn't maternity clothing but just has the room to accommodate a growing belly!

We met in the field that I love to shoot in just before sunset, and I enjoyed capturing their natural interaction. I can't wait to meet their little girl when they bring her to the studio for their newborn session sometime next month after she arrives!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Lovely in Lace

This client found me online and was so excited to shoot her maternity session in my Atlanta natural light studio. She loved the colors and the studio wardrobe, and immediately chose this dress. It's soft lace, floor length, and just makes every mama to be feel elegant and gorgeous. My clients don't have to worry about shopping for something to wear unless they want to. Clients are welcome to schedule a complimentary fitting appointment prior to their session to select something from the wardrobe that works perfectly for them.

There is something amazing about pregnancy and seeing a round belly knowing that there is a perfect little baby curled up inside waiting to be born when the time is right. What a privilege it is to grow and carry our babies, even if it's not always the most glamorous or fun experience at times. This particular client also hired me for her birth session, so I was able to document the process of her labor and delivery and the moment she met her sweet baby girl. As I look at this photo now, I am thinking of the moment she met her daughter and the look of love and joy on her face. As a photographer, I absolutely love being invited to photograph the most special times of my client's lives.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Waiting for baby Selah

I was delighted to meet and photograph this sweet couple expecting a little baby girl next month!  I love the name (Selah) they have chosen for her, and they were so much fun to work with. Mama came to me to go through wardrobe options prior to their session, and she chose this gorgeous dress that is part of my studio wardrobe. Summers in Atlanta are incredibly hot and humid, and this dress is light and airy. Doesn't she look perfect in it? It's so comfortable to wear, and is one of my favorite pieces. 

We met before sundown at a secluded field, and we finished their maternity session in 25 minutes. My pregnancy photo sessions are not about cheesy photos or props. They're about the connection that you and your partner have together. I do provide some natural direction, but the rest unfolds easily as you interact. We all had a great time, and dad gave me a high five at the end since he was expecting to be trapped taking photos for 1+ hours. (who has time for that?!)

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Studio Maternity Sessions

I have quite a few clients elect for a studio maternity session. My studio is located in historic Grant Park, in a quiet building close to Zoo Atlanta. Some clients just don't want to be outdoors because they're not "outside people", and others want a more intimate session that they wouldn't be comfortable shooting outdoors. When we plan your session, I'll get a very good idea of what you want to shoot. My images are tasteful and classic, as my main goal is that your pregnancy pictures stand the test of time. Worried about feeling awkward? You might for the first couple of minutes, but by the time you leave you won't be. All of my clients tell me how much fun they had as they're leaving! I have a gorgeous studio wardrobe, so all you need to do is do your hair and makeup (or have it professionally done!) and show up to the studio. If you're not sure about the studio wardrobe, you can schedule a complimentary fitting appointment to come in and see what there is that could work for you.  Almost all of my pieces are not maternity wear but have been carefully selected by me for the ability to accommodate a baby belly and drape beautifully.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Why Pregnancy Photos are important

As a maternity photographer in Atlanta who LOVES taking pregnancy photos for clients, I meet a lot of different women. Some women love the way they look and feel when they're pregnant. Others hate the way they feel but love the way they look. Some women hate it all and consider pregnancy a means to an end. Pregnancy isn't always easy. I dealt with pretty severe morning sickness with my pregnancies, and didn't feel so great for the first half.

The biggest concern I hear from clients is that they're going to look fat in their images. You may not look like you did before pregnancy, but hear me: you look beautiful. I promise. I know exactly what to dress you in from the studio wardrobe and what angles to shoot from to make you see how stunning you are pregnant. I also know how your hair and makeup need to be done and have many referrals of fabulous hair and makeup artists in the Atlanta area. Why not make a special day for yourself out of it? Get a massage beforehand, have your hair and makeup done as an add on service from our HMUA at the studio, and enjoy every minute of your session! 

Our bodies are amazing. We have the capability to grow a tiny cell cluster into a baby that weighs several pounds. We grow an entire new organ (the placenta) to support them. Regardless of how we may feel when pregnant, the kicks and the movements as your baby grows within are an amazing thing to feel. The thoughts that you think while feeling those movements: who will my baby look like? What will my baby be like personality wise? What color eyes will my baby have? The answers to the questions don't even matter in the end. It's your baby, and you love them with a fierceness you didn't even know possible. That love is only going to multiply in an infinite way the moment you meet them for the very first time. When you meet them, you will know them. You've gotten to know them over the nine months you have carried them. And you know what? They will know you. They know your voice, your warmth, and your love. Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Olive

I was so excited to photograph Olive's maternity session in my natural light studio here in Atlanta. Olive had planned her wardrobe far in advance and had a clear vision for her session, which was very much in line with what I love to shoot. Olive brought her own split front maternity gown, and chose to wear a white chemise from my studio wardrobe for the in studio portion.

We then took her session outdoors to a quiet little spot that I knew would be the perfect location and backdrop for the stunning maternity gown she had chosen, and her husband joined in for some photos as well. It was in the 40's and windy, but Olive was a trouper and I worked as quickly as I could with some breaks in between for her to warm back up in a coat. 

While shooting the session was wonderful, it was even more amazing to reveal the gallery a couple of weeks later to Olive and her mother. Seeing the beaming smiles and hearing the gasps as they saw her maternity pictures for the first time was a lot of fun. Lily Sophia Photography is a full service boutique studio, and providing the full client experience is so important to me. I can't wait to see Olive again when she brings her baby to the studio next month!

I love to take pregnancy photos for maternity clients here at my natural light studio in Atlanta, Georgia. Women are at their most beautiful when they are pregnant! I encourage my clients to take the time to have their hair and makeup professionally done, and am more than happy to recommend some talented makeup artists.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | In the Studio

It was a freezing cold day in Atlanta, but it didn't matter, because this studio maternity session was toasty warm for my pregnant mama. Look how gorgeous and happy she is! I can't wait to meet her little baby boy due at the beginning of January. 

Maternity sessions in the studio are perfect for expectant moms who want intimate images showcasing their pregnant belly. You will absolutely glow in your session, and will have so much fun! If you're worried about being awkward and self conscious, don't be. As a birth photographer in Atlanta, I have seen it all, so various stages of undress don't bother me. All of my clients warn me that they're going to be nervous and uncomfortable before their session, but by the end they tell me how much fun they had. I know it's difficult to embrace your changing pregnant body, especially as a first time mom. I have been there myself with my own two daughters. Some of the changes are fun, others not so much! I am a very warm personality, but not overbearing - and I know exactly how to guide you into flattering poses. Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Intimate Studio Sessions

With the weather in Atlanta reaching extremes during winter and summer, I'm happy to offer pregnant mothers a reprieve for their maternity photos inside my gorgeous natural light studio. Many clients want to document their pregnancy wearing pretty intimates, and the images are absolutely lovely, tasteful, and stunning. My studio wardrobe also has quite a few options for clients to choose from!
