Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Brooklyn, 10 days new

I first worked with Heather and her sweet little family for Heather's maternity session in the field, which can be viewed by clicking here. 

Heather arrived at the studio with Brooklyn and settled into the hair and makeup chair with Margaret. She worked with Margaret for her maternity session and loved the experience so much that she decided she had to work with her again. Adding on hair and makeup services saves you the stress of trying to get everyone ready in the morning. Sleep deprivation and exhaustion can also do a number on you, and our makeup artists are fabulous at making you look like you just slept for 12 hours! 

When Heather arrived, she chose a lace dress from the studio wardrobe to wear for the session. I started working with Brooklyn in the newborn shooting room while Heather was in the hair and makeup chair. Brooklyn needed to nurse midway through, and did so nestled up on our studio boppy while Margaret continued to work. Margaret works with newborn moms on the regular, and there is nothing we haven't seen. We work around the needs of your baby, and it's never a problem for you to nurse as needed!

As I was finishing up, daddy and big brother Spencer arrived and we moved to sibling shots. Most families arrange for older siblings to arrive later during the session so they don't go stir crazy sitting in the studio. It makes for a fun and relaxing experience for all involved! Spencer was such an attentive and sweet big brother to his new little sister. They're so lucky to have such loving and involved parents.

Atlanta Birth Photographer | Raphael

You know those families that you meet and you wonder if they can actually be real? They're always sweet, genuine, and positive, and exude love and kindness to everyone they come in contact with? This is one of those families... and while they'll be the first to tell you they aren't perfect, they are very much real. 

I was so excited to welcome this sweet family back to my studio for their newborn session. I had last seen them just a couple weeks prior at Raphael's birth, which was an incredibly emotional and powerful day that I was so honored to be a part of and document for them. I will never forget Emily holding Raphael in her arms singing "Happy Birthday" to him after he was born.  Prior to his birth, Emily and her daughter had worked with me for their studio maternity session, which can be viewed by clicking here. 

Matt and Emily both work in the coffee industry, and were gracious enough to bring me a cup of it. I'm sure it was crazily polluted to them since my coffee is always loaded with cream and sugar. People will jokingly ask me "Are you having any coffee with your sugar milk?" Yep, I'm serious. 

Emily looked through the studio wardrobe and fell in love with a bohemian printed dress from Free People. She loved it so much she told me that if I ever wanted to unload it, to call her first. Penelope also wore one of the dresses from our little girl wardrobe, and Matt wore his own clothing which he chose with the help of our newborn prep packet. Our prep packet is sent to all booked clients in advance of their session to help answer all the commonly asked questions and plan for the morning of. Clients who follow the prep packet (it's short and sweet!) have a much more relaxed session experience. 

Raphael was an easygoing little guy and was generous enough to flash a few grins during his session. Big sister Penelope was so proud and in love with her baby brother, and she was just so sweet and excited!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Christy & Chris

   Christy and I have known each other for a few years, but she's actually known my husband for much longer since they went to high school together!  Christy doesn't live in Atlanta, but in Charlotte, NC. She has followed my work on Instagram for a while and would tell me how sad she was that I didn't live closer for her photography needs. Luckily for Christy, my parents live in Charlotte, so I arrange to be in town every few months. I have a few locations that are my go to's for sessions. If you're in Charlotte and hoping for a maternity or family session in Charlotte rather than traveling to me in Atlanta, definitely contact me! 

   When Christy found out that I would be in Charlotte and had some availability to shoot her maternity session, she jumped at it. We kept our fingers crossed that it would all work out weather wise, and it turned out to be such a gorgeous evening with perfect light.

   Prior to her maternity session,  I asked which dresses she would be interested in from the wardrobe, and she told me to bring whatever I thought would work for her. I brought 5 dresses with me, and we ended up using 3 of them, all of which she looked absolutely gorgeous in. Her husband, Chris was such a sweetheart and is also a photographer as well. I enjoyed working with them both and their willingness to lay down in the field together at the very end after the sun had almost disappeared. When I asked "How do you feel about being on the ground?" they both said, "We'll do anything you ask us to do, because we know the results will be worth it!" High praise, and I don't take that kind of trust lightly. Clients who are willing to trust me and step out of the box just a little bit are my favorite kind.

Atlanta Baby Photographer | Remiii's Fresh 48 at Waters Pavilion, Piedmont Hospital

The last time I saw this little guy was at his parents' studio maternity session. They booked a Fresh 48 session to take place at Piedmont Hospital in the Waters Pavilion, and a newborn session. A lot of clients ask if there's that big of a difference between Fresh 48 and newborn. The answer is YES. Fresh 48 sessions take place in the hospital during daylight hours before discharge to go home. Babies are photographed just as they are, in their little hospital hat and iconic blanket. The session is about 45 minutes to an hour, and captures your family and baby as they are in a documentary style. I do give new families some guided direction if they aren't quite sure what to do!  Some moms like to get out of bed, while others prefer to stay in bed. You'll know what time I'm coming that day, so you'll have a chance to get a shower and freshen up. Your baby will usually be less than 48 hours old, and it's amazing how quickly they change in mere days and in the first couple of weeks. Many clients who have chosen to do both a Fresh 48 and newborn session have commented how amazed they were by the changes between the two sessions when they look at their images. 

Remiii was named after his daddy, so the REM are his initials, and the iii is for the third. I thought it was such a unique nickname and quite clever as well. Since he was sleeping in his bassinet when I arrived, I started the session with solo images while his mother freshened up a bit. He opened his eyes for me a couple of times, and had a very steady gaze. It was so sweet to watch his parents with him, admiring all of his little features. For those of you reading this who haven't had your own children yet...the first few weeks are filled with just starting in awe at the little human being you created. Trust me. Everything about your new baby is amazing, unique, and super adorable. One of my favorite things about sessions is that your baby will someday see YOUR reaction to them. They'll see that awe and love pouring out from your eyes and smiles as you hold them and talk softly to them. It's the beginning of the rest of your life, and theirs.

Atlanta Child Photographer | Rylee & Ross

Courtney and her family are long term clients of mine that I just love. I photographed the day of her son's birth as well as his newborn session. They came back in to the studio for some portraits to celebrate Ross turning one. The session was originally supposed to be a First Birthday session, but unfortunately Ross had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic which caused the session to have to be rescheduled. The reschedule date ended up being almost two months later because of their travel schedule, so Courtney decided to have it be a regular portrait session with no cake involved. Her goal for the session was for me to capture the unique personalities of her two children. Ross was quite the busy bee who had recently started walking. He ran all over the studio, jumped on the bed, played with toys, and was adorable. Courtney had showed up from the gym, so was not dressed to participate in the session. Because Ross was all over the place, I asked if she would mind putting on one of the studio dresses and holding Ross so that we could get him to be still for a little while. She agreed, and I loved the results. 

Big sister Rylee was just as adorable and sweet. I had a lot of fun photographing her... with her wispy curls and big brown eyes, what's not to love?!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Ross, 10 days new

Happy Fourth of July! It happens to be my FAVORITE holiday of the year. I love the fireworks, the spirit of patriotism, and the sense of community in the family and neighborhood gatherings all over the country. 

We are so busy at the studio, that blogging sometimes doesn't happen for a while after sessions take place. This particular session.... well, it's two years after! It still remains one of my favorites, and this family is such a special one. Courtney and James contacted me initially for a VERY last minute consultation for The Birth Session. We all hit it off during the consult, and they decided to book both The Birth Session and a newborn session. They had not done this with their first baby, and were disappointed that they hadn't. The only newborn photos they had of her were the hospital photos which, as Courtney put it: "Are sweet, and something we will always treasure no matter what...but just aren't very good!". I think she put it well. You'll never regret having a photo of your baby even if it's not that great quality wise...but if you could choose a great photo of your baby that was also one you found beautiful, wouldn't you? 

Working with this family was so much fun, and so special. They really have a lot of fun together, and it shows. Rylee was enamored with her little brother, and I was able to capture some of the sweetest sibling moments between them. They are still the best of friends to this day. Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Sara & Jason

Oh Sara, where do I begin? Sara was never supposed to be able to have children, and was a very high risk pregnancy. She fought through it all, and did it with a smile on her face. Her fortitude and positivity are absolutely amazing, and I consider myself a better person to know her. 

When Jason contacted us to schedule a maternity session, he told us their amazing story and that they were expecting a little girl named Mila Raven. They initially wanted a field session, but her doctors advised her that being outdoors and walking in the heat wasn't a good idea with her health issues. So, she elected to shoot in the studio instead. She fell in love with two dresses from our studio wardobe and a flower crown, and decided to book HMUA add on services with Margaret. 

When I arrived at the studio, Margaret was finishing up, and we got started. It was so much fun working with Sara and Jason and seeing how excited they were for their miracle baby, I loved getting to photograph this special time in their life and getting to know them as well. Mila arrived safely and will be ONE in less than two weeks. Sara is still fighting through health issues with a smile on her face, and inspiring everyone else around her. Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Mandy & Jaqai

Jaqai contacted me when his wife was in the first trimester to ask about maternity session information. He knew he wanted to surprise her with a session and was gathering up information before booking. Weeks went by, and then months...so I put Jaqai's email in my archived folder and assumed I wouldn't hear from him again.

I was wrong. An email from Jaqai popped up in my inbox asking if he could book a session for his wife. He apologized for the last minute notice and explained they'd been pretty busy renovating their home and getting ready for their baby. I had last minute availability, so I had them come into the studio for a maternity fitting a few days before their session. Mandy chose to wear one of our maternity wraps and then a form fitting maternity gown which looked amazing on her. Jaqai initially insisted that he didn't want to be in any of the photographs, but with a little sweet talking, I convinced him to be in a few. At the very least, if your husband only wants to be in ONE photo, we can shoot the classic partners cradling the belly with no faces shown. 

We had a lot of fun during their session, and they went on to welcome a beautiful baby boy who I had the pleasure of meeting when they came by the studio to pick up their maternity print.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Peyton

I last saw Lindsay and Matt for their maternity session in the gardens, which you can view by clicking here. This family was a pretty special family, because Matt was deploying just days after the birth of Peyton. The original plan was for an induction, but Peyton arrived via emergency cesarean section when it was determined at check in for their induction that there was no time to waste. Because Lindsay was recovering from her c-section and unable to come to the studio, I decided I would drive to their home for father/son and family images, and that we would finish the newborn session in a couple of weeks when Lindsay had recovered. I do not travel to homes for newborn sessions for many reasons (click here to read why!), but I think we can all agree that this was a session that it was important to make an exception for.  They only had one area of their home where the light was sufficient, so we moved a chair and table out of the way and made it work. I am so thankful for the sacrifices this sweet family made for our country, and was honored to work with them to preserve these moments. So, Peyton is three days old in the images with daddy, and 2 weeks old in the studio images. 

Lindsay came to the studio two weeks later with a friend of hers who was staying to help her adjust to life with a baby and essentially as a single mom. Peyton was the MOST awake baby that I have ever had in the studio. I pulled out every single trick that I have in my bag, but ultimately it was patience and waiting for him to fall asleep that won. While he was awake and bright eyed, I photographed his intense gaze and little personality. He kept pretending to be asleep and then would open his eyes and I swear it seemed like he was thinking, "Ah HAH! Gotcha!" sometimes. We all had a good laugh about it though! We wrapped up the session with just Lindsay and Peyton. 

I'm happy to report that Matt has returned SAFELY home and that we all celebrated Peyton's first birthday in the studio earlier this month for his First Birthday session. Wait until you see the images from that session... Matt made Peyton's smash cake all by himself! 

I have chosen to share the images from their newborn session in black and white for cohesiveness and flow as the color of their home and studio are vastly different. Lindsay and Matt received their images in both black and white and color edits, as all clients do.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Jr.

I first worked with Rich & Devi for their studio maternity session which can be viewed by clicking here, and then for their birth session at Northside Hospital. Jr. was born on his older half sister's birthday and they are 20 years apart! I thought that was pretty neat, especially considering that he arrived pretty early at 36 weeks so they didn't really consider that a possibility. At least Rich only has to remember one date for the birthdays of his children! :) 

Jr. was a very alert baby who made lots of funny faces while he settled to sleep, and I took advantage of the opportunity to capture them. Sure enough, Rich & Devi's favorite image was the second shown... I think he's so cute with his little dimple and tongue sticking out.

After he finished wiggling around and getting his energy out, he fell fast asleep. It was so sweet watching Rich and Devi with their son. They're so in love with him, and it was such an honor to photography their maternity, birth and newborn sessions for them. 

I've chosen to share only the black and white edits from this session, but Rich and Devi received both color and black and white edits of their images, as all clients do.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Jonetta

Jonetta contacted me for a last minute maternity session in the studio. She asked if I thought her images would be back in time for her upcoming baby shower so that she could display prints. I have a two week turnaround time for images, and she was within that window so I was happy to tell her that wouldn't be a problem.

She brought along her husband for her maternity fitting, and he was such a sweet guy but had no interest in participating in the session because he wanted it to be about Jonetta and their baby girl. It's all a matter of preference! I have many expectant moms who choose to be solo for their maternity session. It's always a lot of fun regardless, and you'll never regret having images of yourself while pregnant with your little one. 

The day of the session, Jonetta showed up and I just absolutely LOVED how she chose to wear her hair! She has the best dimples and smile, and we had a lot of fun shooting. She was a little bite nervous at first, but unless you're a professional model, it's totally normal. My job is to work with you and I promise you'll be relaxed by the end.

Atlanta Maternity | Meredith & Brett

I have a lot of clients travel to me from out of state for their maternity sessions, and Meredith and Brett are one of them! They came to me all the way from Iowa! This brings the state list that my clients have traveled to me from to: North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, New York, Iowa, and Ohio! Most of my out of town maternity clients either live within a day's drive or plan a babymoon weekend in Atlanta. If an outdoor session is planned, we default to the studio if the weather forces us to. Fortunately, all was just fine other than being a typical humid Atlanta summer. 

Meredith came to the studio the day before their session to try on pieces from the wardrobe. We had already discussed what Brett should wear for the session, so he was squared away. We had fun chatting and getting to know one another, and she chose two dresses that she loved.

The next evening, we met at the gardens location. It was hot, and humid... but worth it! I try to have my pregnant clients move as little as possible and dad and I do all the work. We'll stop to dab off sweat, and a lot of things can be taken care of in post processing. I work quickly and have a natural approach that produces beautiful and organic images with genuine connection, so you will not be standing around sweating and being miserable for two hours. If being hot and outdoors isn't for you...that's what the studio location is for!

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Ela

I had last worked with Priti & Paras for their maternity session in the gardens location, which can be viewed by clicking here. 

Ela was breech, so a c-section was planned when she decided not to turn. For my c-section mamas, I typically plan for their session to take place when baby is 10 days or older just to give them some extra time to recover. Some of my clients with c-sections have come in at 8 days old, but (a) they were feeling great and (b) they needed to do it then for scheduling reasons out of their control. All newborn sessions are booked after babies are 8 days or older unless there are extenuating circumstances that mandate it be done sooner. Example? Dad deploying. Yep, that's happened! 

When they arrived and I took Ela out of her carseat I was absolutely amazed by her incredibly long eyelashes. She definitely gets those from her daddy! To this day, I still haven't had a newborn in with longer eyelashes than this one. Priti asked that tiebacks be used for Ela during her solo portaits, but it is always up to the parents. Some mamas of baby girls prefer they not be used at all, while others ask for a mix. We'll discuss that when you arrive for your newborn session!

Ela slept well for her solo portraits and then we moved to the family portion of the session. It's always so special to see new parents with their brand new baby, especially when I've worked with them previously for maternity. There is such a beautiful change that takes place and I'm so lucky to get to witness it so often!

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Chris & Hong

Chris contacted me to schedule a maternity session in the field for his wife. He is a hobbyist landscape and wildlife photographer and also shoots Canon, so we had a fun discussion with technical camera terms and the best portrait lenses. Chris and Hong have literally traveled all over the world, and it was awesome to hear about their latest trip to Patagonia. After the session, he ended up picking up a 50mm lens at my recommendation for when their baby boy arrived so he could photograph him. 

Funny story about this session...it took three tries to make this happen. The third time really was the charm. The first date we went to the field, and there was no rain forecasted but when we arrived it started pouring. We agreed to try again in a few days. The day of, there was rain forecasted, but we all mutually agreed to give it a try and met at the field... and it started pouring before we even got out of our cars. FINALLY the next week the weather cooperated, and it was worth the wait. Believe it or not, my sessions are rarely rescheduled due to weather. When clients book outdoor sessions, we always schedule a backup date in the calendar too. It may seem a little crazy to have two dates blocked off on the calendar since that limits my availability to other inquiries, but my clients are my top priority. I don't want you to stress about what will happen if your session has to be rescheduled - because you'll already know the date of the reschedule and have it blocked on your calendar too! As sessions take place, the backup dates are released from the calendar so we frequently have last minute availability for outdoor sessions as a result. So if you waited until the last minute to book an outdoor session, call us and see if we have a last minute opening for you or get on our waIting list. We go down the waiting list in the order of interest when a backup date opens and it's first come first serve.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Bennett, 3 weeks old

I worked with Megan & Steve for their field maternity session, which can be viewed by clicking here. Megan had a little bit of a rough recovery, so we delayed their newborn session until Bennett was three weeks old. She was a little bit nervous that it would be too long to wait, but I reassured her that we have LOTS of older babies in the studio. Many of our clients didn't think they wanted newborn photos, but then realized that they did when their babies were already two or three weeks old. We try to fit in last minute requests, but it's schedule dependent. If you're one of those mamas who didn't make newborn portrait arrangements and are looking at your sweet little baby right now and regretting it - pick up the phone and call us to see if we can fit you in! Sometimes we have availability the very next day. If your husband is already back to work, we can schedule it so he can pop it over his lunch break to participate! We have a lot of dads who don't have any paternity leave at all, so we make it work for those families by having dad there for 30 minutes or less. 

Bennet was absolutely adorable with little kissable puckered lips. He slept like a champ and mom and dad were just absolutely smitten by him. I love seeing the joy on the faces of my clients as they look at their little one and then at each other. The realization of "We made this little tiny human being!" makes for the perfect expression of joy/disbelief/amazement/awe/insert your adjective here. I truly do feel like I have the best job in the world to be able to witness brand new families in their first days and weeks. There is nothing else like it, and I'm honored to be chosen to share in that with my clients.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Megan & Steve

Megan booked her maternity session and her newborn session at the same time. Clients who book both receive a credit towards a Newborn Signature Collection when booking both maternity and newborn at the same time. When Megan came into the studio to try on dresses, she chose one that she loved and opted to wear a strapless eyelet dress of her own that she had. Steve was so sweet and the two of them had lots of little moments where they were giggling. I have no idea what they were laughing about, but I love that they were so comfortable with me behind the camera that they could truly be themselves. When you are relaxed and having fun, it shows! I want all my clients to look back on their images with fondness and remember how much fun the experience was. While this is a maternity session, for many couples it's the last session they have as a couple before kids. Capturing your love, emotional connection and the excitement before you take that big step into parenthood is what my maternity sessions are about. You won't see dads kneeling on the ground kissing bellies or awkward poses like the hand hearts over the belly. That's not what we're about here - we are about authenticity and the real moments that matter.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Lindsay & James

Lindsay scheduled a studio maternity session and chose to add on the hair and makeup services of Margaret. 

Lindsay came in for a maternity fitting a couple of weeks before her session, and she chose an off the shoulder flowy dress from the studio wardrobe. The studio wardrobe is a perk for booked clients! There are no additional charges to use clothing from the studio, and you can rest assured that all of it photographs beautifully and will give you the gorgeous aesthetic that you're looking for. We have an assortment of sizes that will fit 0-16 and accommodate a pregnant belly. We've had moms as short at 4'10" and as tall as 6'2" borrow clothing from the wardrobe, and we have seen every kind of baby bump there is! Twin bump, high bump, basketball bump, wide bump, low bump, you name it. Shopping for yourself isn't always fun when you're pregnant, and it can be stressful trying to find something you'll likely only wear once or twice in your life. The studio wardrobe solves all of those problems with the bonuses of no nasty store lighting, snacks and beverages, and me on hand to help you choose the most flattering options for your shape and skin tone. ;)  

When I arrived at the studio, Lindsay was in Margaret's makeup chair having the final touches applied. Margaret is lots of fun to work with, and nails it every single time. You'll learn a lot about makeup and application techniques while you're in her chair! I met Lindsay's sweet husband, James and set up while Lindsay was getting dressed. Then we started the session, and it was a lot of fun. James was a sweetheart and a bit of a jokester, so there was definitely laughter - which is always a good thing! I'm always looking for those real smiles and those real moments. Most clients need a few minutes to warm up and feel comfortable in front of the camera. It's MY job to get you there, and I will. All I need from you is a willingness to participate and have fun. It's that easy. No cheesy poses or awkwardness happens in my studio.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Slade

I first worked with Caroline and Blair for their maternity session in the field, which can be viewed by clicking here. I was so excited to hear that their little girl, Slade Ivy, had arrived!  The new family of three drove an hour from their home in Alpharetta to the studio, and Caroline opted to work with Margaret again for add on hair and makeup services. Many of our moms comment on how easy it is to have this taken care of for them. Having a newborn can be a bit stressful in the first few weeks when you're tired and sleep deprived. Our clients simply have to show up with their baby, and we will handle the rest for them if they so choose! 

Slade was a snuggly little girl with incredibly long and lush eyelashes. She strongly preferred to have her legs fully stretched out and extended, and was not interested in curling up, which is perfectly fine! I will never force a baby into a position they don't want to be in. Instead, babies lead the sessions around here. If they don't want to move a certain way, I'll work around them. Your baby's comfort and safety during their session is my top priority. Slade woke up towards the end of her session and started wiggling around. She had great eye contact with the camera, so I took the opportunity to capture her cute little faces and personality. Those images ended up being some of her parents' favorites that they chose to print.

After I finished with Slade's portraits, I photographed her daddy with her. He's a man of few words, but he was clearly smitten with his little girl. It's always so sweet to watch a new daddy interact with his tiny little baby. I don't know if it's because I have two little girls of my own, but I am such a sap when I photograph a daddy with his new baby girl. It takes me back to when my own girls were that tiny, which seems like a lifetime ago AND only yesterday all at the same time. (if you don't have children, that statement won't make sense to you...but when you do you'll know exactly what I mean).

We then wrapped up with family images and then just Caroline and Slade. I always tell clients that the family and parent portion of the session is the "easy" part. Your job is to love your baby and admire them, which you're already an expert at. My job is to photograph these connections and do so from flattering angles, and adjust all of you as necessary.

Atlanta Maternity Photographer | Stephanie & Nick

Stephanie contacted me about possibly booking a maternity session last summer. She brought her husband along to the Studio Open House to meet me and chat a bit. They decided at the Open House to go forward with booking their session, and I was super excited to work with them! Stephanie and I had a lot in common - personality wise, and she was even delivering with the same midwifery practice that I used. We spent a good bit of time chatting and getting to know each other. 

When Stephanie came in for her maternity fitting a couple of weeks before her session, we had to laugh because she informed me that she had bought a dress for the session and wanted to wear it. I asked to see it, and she pulled out a dress that I already had in the same size in my studio wardrobe! You know you're on the same page with style and aesthetic when this happens! Fortunately she loved the dress so much she wanted to have it permanently in her wardrobe. The perk of borrowing from the studio wardrobe is not having to purchase something that you might only wear once. 

The evening at the field was absolutely beautiful. Stephanie brought along a cool black hat and asked if we could incorporate it into some of her images. Nick was such a sweetheart, and kept us laughing during. The two of them definitely were made for each other and balance each other out.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Caellum

I first worked with Theresa and Jabari for their field maternity session, which can be seen by clicking here. I was there the day that their son Caellum entered the world and documented his birth as well. I was so excited to see them a couple of weeks later for Caellum's newborn session! This little baby boy has some of the most perfect little newborn lips I've ever seen, and was just so, so squishy and cute. It's hard to believe he's going to be turning one this summer!
