FRESH 48

Atlanta Fresh 48 Photographer | Baby Marin

Fresh 48 sessions are some of my absolute favorites! I first worked with Roxanne and Zach when they were expecting their first baby for their maternity and birth sessions. When Roxanne let me know she was pregnant with their second baby, she knew she wanted to book a maternity session at the park location, and she asked if she should book birth or Fresh 48. After some discussion, we determined that Fresh 48 was the best fit for her because she was most interested in documenting the entire family together and Orlando with his baby sister. Sometimes babies are born in the middle of the night, so I’m gone by the time the rest of the family comes to meet baby unless the family chooses to do both birth and Fresh 48. We can discuss which session type is best for you if you’re on the fence or not sure.

Want to see Roxanne’s maternity session at the field location when she was pregnant with her son? You can see the photos by clicking here. We met up at the park for her family maternity session on a hot late summer evening and you can see those images by clicking here. One difference between her maternity sessions was that this time, Roxanne chose to add on hair and makeup ! She had attended our Motherhood Experience event in the past and really loved the simple makeup application that is included, so was excited to see what the full experience would be like. I’m happy to report she loved every second of her time with our lead HMUA, Margaret, and looked absolutely stunning to boot! I love looking back and comparing images from each pregnancy to see if they look similar or totally opposite!

As a quick note: I’m fully booked for The Birth Session for the remainder of 2020 with a limited wait list remaining for the months of August and September. Contact us to discuss what being on the wait list entails! As a note, The Birth Session for 2021 due dates will exclusively be available to clients booking at least 2 other sessions with me over the first year (choosing from maternity, newborn, and a milestone session for 6 months or First Birthday).

Roxanne let me know that she was scheduled for an induction, and confirmed with her daughter Marin had arrived. I asked when her big brother would be napping and available to come to the hospital, and we chose a time that worked for both of us during daylight hours the next morning. I always take nap times of older siblings into consideration when scheduling, but cannot guarantee a specific timeframe. Fresh 48 sessions are photographed during daylight hours in your hospital room before you are discharged to go home from the hospital.

“What if my baby has some unforeseen complications and we aren’t able to do a Fresh 48? because of a NICU stay?” We are asked this a lot, and it’s totally a valid concern because life doesn’t always go according to plan. No need to stress about this - we’ll transfer your Fresh 48 to a future milestone session for 6 months or First Birthday.

When I arrived at Northside Hospital, I made my way to their labor & delivery recovery room. I always ask that when I arrive it just be parents and baby present. This allows me to efficiently photograph those parent moments and baby alone, and get set up for when an older sibling is arriving, especially if videography has been added on. Sometimes it’s the very first meeting between siblings, and other times it isn’t. Everything is very natural and lifestyle oriented for Fresh 48 sessions. I will move some things around if they’re distracting in the background, but typically leave your room as is for the most part in keeping with the truly authentic style of documentary storytelling.

Marin was absolutely ADORABLE and such a little sleeping beauty. Grandma brought Orlando about 15 minutes after I had arrived, and was happy to see me. After a few high fives, I set about photographing the family together and gave Roxanne and Zach some simple prompts for what to do. Everything I photograph is natural interaction unfolding, but sometimes my clients need a little help to get the ball rolling. That’s pretty normal, and I’m here to get it going, so you never need to worry about what you’re supposed to do. Grandma jumped in for a few photos as well - and I welcome other family members! Keep in mind that I will want to start with just parents and baby and then bring in others to keep the atmosphere calm and peaceful for all involved.

Enjoy a few of my favorites from this precious family’s session!

Atlanta Fresh 48 Photographer | Baby T

I absolutely adore Fresh 48 sessions, and this one was no exception! Fresh 48 sessions are scheduled to take place after the birth of your baby before you’re discharged to go home, and take place during daylight hours. New mamas let me know when they’re going into labor and then confirm when baby has arrived, and we coordinate when I’m coming in. If you’re welcoming a new sibling, many families love to try and coordinate my being there when big brother or big sister meets their new baby for the first time. Grandparents are always welcome to participate as well. We will always start the session with just mom, dad, and baby and have anyone else participating join after I’ve been there for about 20 minutes.

I travel to intown hospitals for these and am most often at Waters Pavilion of Piedmont Hospital, Northside Hospital, Emory Midtown, DeKalb Medical Center, and Atlanta Medical Center for these. I get a flu shot every single year in September, and my pertussis booster is updated every three years. My last pertussis vaccination was this past September. The safety of my tiny clients and their families is absolutely paramount!

Fresh 48’s are photographed in a documentary lifestyle format. I want you to remember your baby exactly as they were, with their flakes and wrinkly skin, and puffy little cheeks. I’m always amazed at how vastly different babies look at two days old compared to two weeks, and a Fresh 48 is a perfect way to preserve that forever.

New families decide on what they’re wearing. Some families want true documentary and opt to keep the classic hospital newborn hat and blanket on. Other families declined that hat and blanket and immediately used their own things for their new baby. Some mamas like to wear a robe or pretty nightgown, some mamas stay in their hospital gown, and others (like this mama) change into a dress. There is no right or wrong way to go about it - please dress in a way that makes you feel beautiful and how you want to remember being when you look at your images 20 years from now.

During a Fresh 48 session, sometimes we will have nurses stop in, and I’ll take a step back and let them do what they need to do. It’s best to coordinate with your nursing staff before I come in on a time that we will have as few disturbances as possible. I’ve had a few frustrated parents when a nurse arrived and announced they were taking baby to the nursery for a test or shot that could have been delayed until later if the nursing staff had been made aware of my visit in advance.

If you’ve had a c-section, I’ll work around whatever limitations you may have. Some mamas feel better sitting while others prefer to stand. Even though this is very much a documentary approach, I’ll still be giving you some guided direction for natural interaction and helping you as needed! I’ll also sometimes help swaddle up baby (after washing my hands of course!) if you’re still getting the hang of it, and I’ll position baby in their hospital isolette for some solo images of just them and all their little details.

Here are just a few of my favorites from this Fresh 48 session! If you’d like to talk about booking a Fresh 48 session, contact us today! We are fully booked for a bit, but also have a waiting list for some months.

Atlanta Hospital Photographer | Atlanta Medical Center Fresh 48 Session

I first worked with Rashida for her maternity and newborn sessions when she had her second son. They were surprised with baby #3 and thrilled to find out they were having a little girl! She immediately contacted me me to get in the calendar for Fresh 48, maternity, and newborn sessions. You can see their gorgeous family field maternity session by clicking here, and their daughter’s newborn session will be posted later this week!

As with their second son, they had their daughter at Atlanta Medical Center, which is one of my favorite hospitals to photograph at due to the large windows in most rooms. When Rashida went into labor, she texted me to let me know so I had the heads up. Her labor with baby girl was super quick compared to the previous one, and I made arrangements to come to the hospital the next morning when big brothers would be coming to meet her.

When I arrived at the hospital, I gave Rashida and Jordache hugs and chatted for a couple of minutes about how everything went, and admired their gorgeous new daughter. They had named her Jordyn - keeping the J name tradition going! Because they had worked with me before, the room was pretty much already cleared of clutter and ready to go. Plus, with a third baby, Rashida hadn’t packed anywhere near the amount of stuff that most first time parents do! Pro tip: you only use about 20% of what you pack with your first child. Would you believe I packed MAGAZINES? I don’t know WHAT I was thinking - some list online said I’d have lots of time to read after the baby was born, so I decided it was a good idea. ::insert facepalm emoji here::

Rashida had bought a mommy and me set for the hospital, which was just adorable. After two sons, she was ALL about the mommy and me girly things. Fresh 48 sessions are photographed in whatever you’re wearing! For some moms, it’s a simple robe from home or even the standard hospital gown. Babies are generally in their hospital onesie and hat, but some mamas prefer to dress them in a special outfit and/or wrap them in a swaddle. There is no right or wrong way to go about it - I discuss the different options with each of my clients when they book.

I started with taking images of Jordyn in her mother’s arms, and then got ready for the big brothers to come in and meet her. I LOVE photographing sibling meetings. Every big sibling reacts differently! Biggest brother Jaiden was absolutely in love and all about his new baby sister. Big brother Jace was not so into it, and quite suspicious of this new tiny person taking up HIS spot in his mama’s arms. (I’m happy to report he has since come around and adores his baby sister!) Grandma and Grandpa were on hand as well, so they jumped in for a few images as well. I am happy to include your extended family members in your Fresh 48 session as I think grandparents are so special! I just ask for time alone with your family when I first arrive before bringing others in so that we can have the quiet moments of just your immediate family first. It can sometimes be a little chaotic when we have lots of visitors around! We finished up with parent images, and I am just dying over the ones of Jordache with his little girl. There is just something about new daddies with their baby girls that get me every time. I’m so blessed to have one of the most amazing dads on the planet, and I married one of them too. It takes me back to those moments where he held our daughters for the very first time, and so many wonderful memories come flooding back. One memory that comes to mind…. I’ll never forget my husband’s reaction when our first baby sneezed (VERY loudly if I may add!) for the first time after we were home when she was about two days old. Just envision the most amazed look on a person’s face that you can - that was the expression on his face. She started fussing immediately since the sneeze scared her. I remember the way he gently talked to her to calm her down after the sneeze, and the way he held her and rocked and swayed. I remember how tiny her barely 7 pound body was in his arms snuggled up against his chest. I want you to remember these moments with your baby too.

Aside from taking care of clutter upon arrival, Fresh 48 sessions are EASY. These sessions are a documentary lifestyle session, and I love them. I don’t edit your baby’s newborn skin for Fresh 48 sessions, because that would take away from how they truly looked in those first hours. If you’re having a postpartum breakout, I’ll take care of that for you when I edit!

Your Fresh 48 images will be unforced, unfold naturally and preserve you, your partner, big siblings, and your baby exactly as you were in those moments. I want you to smile when you look at the images of your baby's sweet features and remember how the top of their head smelled so fresh and perfect. I want the memories of those first days to come flooding back, and I want you to wonder aloud how the time went so fast.

Enjoy a handful of baby Jordyn’s Fresh 48 session images!

Atlanta Hospital Photographer | Northside Hospital Fresh 48 Session

Diana and Adam contacted me to inquire about maternity and Fresh 48 sessions and decided to book both. They were having their first baby, a little boy, at Northside Hospital and SO excited about it. I kept in touch with Diana during her pregnancy, and heard from her that they were going into the hospital due to some pre-e symptoms she was experiencing to deliver their son ahead of her due date. Ultimately, baby Graham ended up being delivered via unplanned c-section. He was a BIG squishy boy at 9 pounds! Diana was feeling pretty good the next day (it’s the second full day that’s the worst in terms of recovery from all the reports I’ve had from clients) so I arranged to come in for their session then.

When I arrived at the hospital, Graham was sleeping in Diana’s arms. I opened up the blinds and made a few changes to the room, and we got started. The changes that I make in hospital rooms are simply removing some distracting elements as much as possible. Sometimes recovery rooms are really tiny and there’s really nowhere to put all your stuff. First time parents tend to pack a LOT of things, so the room can be overflowing with personal items. You may not want your breast pump bag or a pile of clothes in the background of your images. Most of the time, parents have this all sorted out before I arrive but with Diana’s limited mobility and Adam needing to care for her and Graham, they didn’t have the time to do so beforehand.

Aside from taking care of clutter, Fresh 48 sessions are EASY. They only require you to hold and love your baby. These sessions are the truest form of documentary lifestyle that I shoot (with the exception of cleaning up the room beforehand!) and I love them. I don’t edit your baby’s newborn skin for Fresh 48 sessions, because that would take away from how they truly looked. If you’re having a postpartum breakout, I’ll take care of that for you in processing though, no worries! Mamas usually plan what they’re going to wear in advance. Some mamas choose a hospital gown while others have their own robe on hand. The choice is completely yours! I personally didn’t wear a hospital gown with any of my children as I preferred the comfort of my own.

Because of Diana’s c-section she was limited to the bed and how much she could move. I work around whatever the situation is, and we’ll still get a great variety of images for your gallery for you to choose from! I will guide you through the entire experience and help move baby or adjust things. If baby needs a nursing break, I can put the camera down or document that in a discreet way for you!

Your Fresh 48 images will be unforced, unfold naturally and preserve you, your partner, and your baby exactly as you were in those first couple of days. I want you to smile when you look at the images of your baby's impossibly tiny features and remember how their head fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. I want the memories of their fresh baby smell and twitchy sleepy smiles to come flooding back. I want you to whisper “How were they ever that little?”

These moments are why I'm a photographer. I can’t stop time (let me know when you figure that one out, please) but I can freeze it for you with beautiful photographs that grab your heart every time you look at them.

Enjoy a handful of Graham’s Fresh 48 sessions in black and white!

Jace | A Fresh 48 Session at Atlanta Medical Center

Rashida called the studio to find out more about The Birth Session. When she learned that we were fully booked for the rest of the year, she decided that a Fresh 48 session would be a good fit for them. I invited her to the studio to meet, and she dropped in. We talked about what to expect, and the process, and after seeing the studio, she decided she wanted to book a newborn session as well!

Rashida's baby was a stubborn little thing, and after a lengthy induction, he finally joined the family! We arranged for my arrival at Atlanta Medical Center to take place shortly before big brother so that I could photograph the new baby alone and with his parents since kids have shorter attention spans.

When I arrived, I learned they had not yet named their new son. They did eventually settle on Jace before they departed from the hospital to go home! He had a full head of hair, pouty lips, and piano player fingers. When big brother Jaiden arrived with his grandparents, it was so neat to see the look of wonder on his face. Jaiden is four, and it reminded me of when my oldest daughter met her baby brother for the first time. A little unsure at first, and then all in!

Welcome to the family, Jace! Check back in a couple of days to see Jaces' newborn session!

Atlanta Hospital Photographer | Piedmont Hospital Fresh 48 Session

Liz & Isaac contacted me to inquire about Fresh 48 sessions and decided to book. They were having their little girl at Piedmont Hospital and very excited about it. I invited them to stop by the studio to meet with me in advance of their daughter's birth because I always like to meet my Fresh 48 clients in advance when possible. When you've just had a baby, you can feel very vulnerable and a stranger walking into your room to photograph you might not be something you're wild about. They stopped in, and we had a good conversation getting to know each other and about what to expect from their session. Liz let me know that she was in labor, and I waited to hear from her that Frances had been born. When she let me know, I asked if she wanted me to come that same day in the afternoon or the next morning. She decided the next morning would be better for her so that she could get some sleep and have a chance to refresh.

When I arrived at the hospital, France was sleeping in her bassinet with her cute little hospital bow hat. I opened up the blinds and made a few changes to the room, and we got started. Fresh 48 sessions are EASY. They only require you to love your baby. Some first time parents have never held babies until their own, so they can be a little bit uncomfortable with it at first but we move slowly and take our time. I provide you with guided direction for natural interaction if you're a bit stumped on what to do. Being in front of a camera can sometimes make you freeze up and not know what to do, and I completely understand that and will work with you and your partner. Your resulting images will be natural and unforced and capture you and your baby exactly as you were in those first few days. When you look at them years from now, I want you to smile as you look at your baby's tiny features and remember how their head fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. You might even remember their perfect little baby smell and the way they sighed before a little smile twitched across their face. These moments are why I'm a photographer. There is no better job in the world than being able to freeze time and irreplaceable memories forever for families as they grow.

Atlanta Baby Photographer | Remiii's Fresh 48 at Waters Pavilion, Piedmont Hospital

The last time I saw this little guy was at his parents' studio maternity session. They booked a Fresh 48 session to take place at Piedmont Hospital in the Waters Pavilion, and a newborn session. A lot of clients ask if there's that big of a difference between Fresh 48 and newborn. The answer is YES. Fresh 48 sessions take place in the hospital during daylight hours before discharge to go home. Babies are photographed just as they are, in their little hospital hat and iconic blanket. The session is about 45 minutes to an hour, and captures your family and baby as they are in a documentary style. I do give new families some guided direction if they aren't quite sure what to do!  Some moms like to get out of bed, while others prefer to stay in bed. You'll know what time I'm coming that day, so you'll have a chance to get a shower and freshen up. Your baby will usually be less than 48 hours old, and it's amazing how quickly they change in mere days and in the first couple of weeks. Many clients who have chosen to do both a Fresh 48 and newborn session have commented how amazed they were by the changes between the two sessions when they look at their images.

Remiii was named after his daddy, so the REM are his initials, and the iii is for the third. I thought it was such a unique nickname and quite clever as well. Since he was sleeping in his bassinet when I arrived, I started the session with solo images while his mother freshened up a bit. He opened his eyes for me a couple of times, and had a very steady gaze. It was so sweet to watch his parents with him, admiring all of his little features. For those of you reading this who haven't had your own children yet...the first few weeks are filled with just starting in awe at the little human being you created. Trust me. Everything about your new baby is amazing, unique, and super adorable. One of my favorite things about sessions is that your baby will someday see YOUR reaction to them. They'll see that awe and love pouring out from your eyes and smiles as you hold them and talk softly to them. It's the beginning of the rest of your life, and theirs.

Atlanta Fresh 48 Photographer | Pace & Rush

Pace and Rush are fraternal twin sisters born to the sweetest parents... and they're the SECOND set of fraternal twins to join the family! Going from three to five children in one day....no big deal, right? :) Morgendee and Neal actually live in Florida, but traveled to Atlanta to be under the care of Dr. Bootstaylor at SeeBaby for their delivery, which ended up being a family centered cesarean. I was hired to document the birth of the twins, and was in the OR with them sitting next to Neal at Morgdenee's head as the baby girls were delivered. It was truly an amazing day for their family, and the experience was so calm and uplifting. Both girls were each placed on Morgendee's chest immediately after delivery, and they weren't taken away from her. I left the family in their recovery room to head home at around 2 AM so I could get some sleep before returning later that day.

After a few hours of sleep, I arrived at DeKalb Medical Center in advance of the siblings arriving to photograph just the babies and their parents first. For Fresh 48 sessions, it's highly recommended that I arrive in advance of siblings or extended family so that I can do this first, and then photograph those first meetings between loved ones.

Morgendee and Neal had not told their older children Cross & Briggs (fraternal twin brothers), and big sister Fischer that they were having another set of twins. So the big kids thought they were coming to the hospital to meet their little sister.... SURPRISE! TWO little sisters. The joy on Fischer's face when she realized she had not one, but two baby sisters was absolutely adorable. There was so much love and laughter and excitement in the room. Morgendee and Neal definitely have their hearts full, and they love (almost) every second of it. It was such an honor to be invited to walk alongside this family and freeze all of these moments in time for them.

Atlanta Fresh 48 Photographer | Camille, 12 hours old at Northside Hospital

When Crystal emailed me to tell me that she was expecting her second baby and wanted to book a Fresh 48 and newborn session, I was so excited! I had worked with Crystal for her maternity and Fresh 48 sessions with their first child and loved working with their sweet family. She elected not to do a maternity session this time around since she was so close to her due date when she contacted me.

Crystal let me know that she was scheduled for an induction so that I would have the heads up on scheduling their session. Well, little Miss Camille had other plans and decided to start the process the day of her induction. :) Beat them to the punch! Crystal let me know that Camille had arrived, and I was able to schedule their session to take place before she was even 12 hours old. I arrived and started photographing Camille and her mommy. Phillip (dad) arrived with big sister Grace and it was so sweet to see Grace meeting her new baby sister and talking to her. Many families schedule Fresh 48's so that they can document their older child meeting their new sibling. I did the same thing with my children, and I can state from personal experience that it's so nice to let a professional document the meeting so you can soak those precious moments in without missing things by being behind an iPhone or your own camera. Live in the moments that will never happen again and be fully present for them! That's what I'm here for.

You can see some images from big sister Grace's Fresh 48 session by clicking here. It's so neat to see both girls and see how different and unique they looked. I am sure they will be the closest and best of friends as they grow up. My two older daughters have an age difference of 22.5 months and they are inseparable. They love each other just as fiercely as they sometimes fight.

Atlanta Baby Photographer | Calhoun's Fresh 48 at Kennestone Hospital

I'm always honored when clients ask me to return for the birth of their second child! 2017 is a record year for repeat clients with a total of 5 clients welcoming their second babies. I'm so excited to watch their families grows! As a note, 2017 is now fully booked for The Birth Session with some Fresh 48 slots still remaining. Fresh 48 sessions are only available at hospitals within the perimeter and take place during daylight hours before you're discharged to go home. A lot of my clients with older children love to book Fresh 48 sessions so that they can fully enjoy watching the first interactions between siblings and soak in those moments without having to be trapped behind a camera to document it.

On this January day, I arrived at the hospital and began documenting the day of Calhoun's birth. We moved to their recovery room, and big sister came to meet her new baby brother. It was a surreal experience for me since the last time I had seen big sister was literally the day she was born. It was such a special experience and an honor to be there and document their very first moments as a new family of four.

Norcross Newborn Photographer | Baby Grace

On July 25th, I was at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA for a birth and when I finished documenting the birth of Jansen, I headed over to see Crystal and Philip. The last time I had seen them was during their amazing maternity session, and I was so excited to find out if they'd had a little boy or girl since they were waiting until birth to find out.

Verdict: It's a girl! Grace was so beautiful, and so sweet. Her daddy was absolutely enamored with her, and both of her parents were just in awe of her. I love seeing the emotion and the transformation that couples make when they become new parents. It's hard to describe, but you can see a marked difference in their eyes. That's why I love Fresh 48 photography. Capturing those tiny newborn details that fade so very quickly and the quiet moments with your baby.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer | Baby Ella, Fresh 48

I headed to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA for Ella's Fresh 48 session. Have you ever seen such a beautiful baby!? I was amazed by her head of hair! Spending time with her parents, Tiffiney and Chee, was a lot of fun and I was able to offer some encouragement to Tiffiney as she navigated breastfeeding. Chee was such an attentive partner and father, and Tiffiney was such a warm and loving mother. The images from Ella's Fresh 48 session are now displayed in her nursery, and also in her baby book. I love when families see the value and importance of documenting their tiny brand new baby … because as parents find out, they change SO fast.
